Any value system that tells people what to believe without any evidence whatsover, in return for a promised future reward, has to be questionable to say the least.
The Christian Old Testament is actually more aggressive, intolerant and narrow minded that the Koran. Christianity has considerable responsibility and a case to answer for itself. Perhaps the Pope could have considered what comments he should make about Christian values and behaviour in the 15th Century, rather than Muslim ones.
At the risk of causing even more offence (because every thicko in the world seems to regard it as a divine right to be offended and angry about something, somewhere), I wonder if people in the US Bible Belt, or the UK evangelical/cult churches, have more in common with radical Islam that they would like to think.
In 'Gulliver's Travels' a war is fought about whether people should open bolied eggs from the pointy end or the more rounded end. We laugh and think what a stupid thing to fight a war over - but this is exactly where we are going at the moment on the world. The end result/middle is the same, we argue how to approach that end, when it is pretty unimportant really.
Oh yeah you hit it right on the head but when it's a them or us situation I'm with my side and my side was the one that got attacked first.
The muslims don't like the western way of life YET we buy their oil giving them money and virtually the western way of life. Also why should we change, we don't ask them to.
I take your point, Lyle, but a fanatic always thinks they were attacked first. Some Westerners see the 9/11 thing as a primary attck, jihadists think that was revenge for meddling in the middle east for oil money, westerners think that we did stuff in the middle east to help out the Jews who were nearly wiped out in WWII, muslims think we set up Israel to dump the Jews anywhere but our own countries, etc etc etc etc
This can be taken all the way back to the beginning of recorded history, literally.
Well all this stuff is really iritating after a while....I can't say "Prophet Muhamed" or "Koran" without someone flipping out and burning flags and shit....I honestly would like for the government TO drop nukes over there...I'm tired of the militant muslim tantrums
