I have not seen the show you talk about but have kind of gotten the impression theres some not hatred but kind of staleness. I think most of it from Roy to be honest, you have to remember Roy talked many times of moving up and fighting holyfield when he was around 206. Roy never did it but kind of talked smack, holyfield kind of called him on his bluff sometimes, he also became more serious about it after evander turned 37 or so, and yes of course roy could have beaten him then, people call evander the greatest cruizer weight even though he had a short rein there and many kind of dismiss roys chance agianst evander at cruizer so mabey roys pissed. Who knows, they have actually sparred toghether lightly in 1990

cockney thanks!!!
Sorry welcome first post MR RJ. Listen I dont know where the debate started Ive never heard more talk about holyfiled fighting jones than here, but heres my take from what emanuel steward says in his book from a brief sparring session is that holy actually outboxed roy in brief sparring, he said roy did alot of waiting and hanspeed was not really a factor at 206 pounds, he did say however this was just sparring and keep in mind holyfield is naturally bigger and more muscualr than roy. He also said Roy would actually have a better chance at evander as he put weight on. "Roy is faster than evander at 206 pounds but marginally, holyfield is still quick enough to counter and box with roy, Roy would have a better shot as holy put weight on being that roy cant ko evander and would have to win on points, also holy hits harder its not really a fair comparison but hey you never no. If they fought at heavy or cruizer Jones would probbaly lose, and I think he would have a better shot at holy at a higher weight like steward said

Not sure about Holy. ;D
Here may be the reason Jones is very outspoken, basically holyfield kind of said without actually saying it, either do it or shut up, its easy to talk about it, if your not going to do it be quiet. Who did jones fight John Ruiz, one of the worst fighters I have ever seen. Jones was only interesting in fighting holy at 37-38 after holyfield struggled with that awful fighter. Jones is great no doubt but he tends to run his mouth to much sometimes and gets irritating
First off Cool Click :coolclick: # 3 and welcome aboard ~ I think what happens here, is you have 2 monster ego's in the same room, anytime you have that , there is going to be tension. It’s not so much a dislike for one another, just 2 guys in the same room that think they are the best ! :)Quote:

Holyfield said NO clearly, for he felt he would not gain anything out of fighting RJJ at the time. So RJJ then targeted Tyson but Tyson was fighting all the politics and was banned from Vegas blah blah and ended up fighting Lewis. So RJJ after defeating Clinton Woods called out Ruiz right after the fight and the rest is history. Now after defeating Ruiz, Jim Lampley asked if he still wanted to fight Holyfield, and RJJ responded:"why would i fight holyfield for? hes old now and done, the fans dont want to see that, besides i beat the man who beat holyfiend 3 tiems tonight".
So let me get this straight, Jones and Holyfield sparred in 1990??
And Jones talked about moving up to fight Holyfield when Holyfield was weighing 206??
In the book by holyfields Lawyer, a whole chapter is about Negotiating a Jones Holyfield fight. The fight eventually fell through because Jones wanted a much higher percentage then holyfield. This was right after Jones beat Ruiz, it was to be his first defense.
Yout talking more of when evander was 37 or so, Jones would have made holy look stupid, he would have looked real bad, like i said people always refer to holyfield has a great warrior and he was, but... he actually some of the faster hands in the division he neve rhad tremendous power, so when holy got old like Jones... he sucked
Well, anything said or written by a lawyer just has to be true doesn't it.Quote:
