UNSANCTIONED BOUT BRINGS ABOUT DEATH

Palm Desert, CA-A 16-year old boy collapsed and died after boxing in what authorities called an underground "fight club." Jefferson Pitner died Sunday after fighting at least three rounds in a Palm Desert park, where he had gathered with eleven other boys, authorities said. Pitner, who lived in Indio, died of head injuries at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, said Sgt. Earl Quinata, spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

FATAL FIGHT BEING CALLED A HOMICIDE

Quinata said Tuesday the case was being investigated as a homicide, but authorities hadn't made any arrests and "had no evidence of criminal intent." Authorities were reviewing photos taken by one boy with a cell phone camera.

Quinata could not say when results of an autopsy, scheduled Tuesday, would be made public.

The boys started the group several years ago and have met regularly, Quinata said, but he did not know where the boys fought or how often. Each fight lasted one to three rounds, and could continue for several minutes.

This should be up in the training section for all those 'backyard boxers'. 8)

I saw a guy die in bootcamp from a boxing match, it was more of health problems than it was of a beating, some people need to see doctors before they fight on any kind of level even illegal street fighting.

Man, this is just another example of how sometimes kids' fun will jsut go too far. Everyone's had playfighting that has got a bit out of hand, and this was probably just one of those things where the kid didn't want to shame himself and fought for longer than he should and took too much of a beating. I'm thinking either that or he fell and cracked his head. Not sure if "fight club" actually glamourised it, but whatever it is it is a sad loss, and no one should have to lose their kid in this kind of incident.

So if you were the president of the world every person would have to be in fights to the death to control the population of the world? Surely contraception is a better solution....

I like that answer. lol. Maybe somebody should list every possible thing that could kill someone. From chewing gum to buses, and put it in a book. Then offer them a carboloy saftey bubble.

very sad to hear about things like this.

I was in an underground fight club in CHICAGO and to be honest no one really got severly injured or killed maybe because we all had a firm understanding on the rules and submission and when to cease fire. but then again we were young and dumb as well. ???
