RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
Tragic - only 27. And had a young family. Puts everything in perspective - yesterday I was whingeing about how much I hated my job. Will think again
Paul used to play in same club as me 15 years ago or so. Always said hello to everyone and always had a smile on his face. Used to piss us off he was that talented !! I remember once knocking in a break of 25 looking pleased with myself and he was on next table and knocked in a break of 112 - we all knew he was something special.
A true Leeds lad - thoughts with his family

Shit - I even thought he was winning this fight.
What a tragedy. never met the guy, but a very good player, good attitude and seemed like an all round nice guy (I also saw him on Superstars, he was hilarious). One of the great stories: when he shagged his girlfriend during a break, then returned to win the match !!!!!
Always a shame when someone so young dies.
Why is it people like this, not Idi Amin or whoever that die?
Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
Am actually pretty gutted about this. Having watched and been playing snooker from a young age he has grown to be one of my favourite players. Alwasy agressive on the table and he also came across as a top top fella. One of the lads kind of thing who alwasy had time for anybody.
Such a fukcing shame.
My thoughts go out to his friends and family. 27 years old. FFS!
Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
Very sad to hear this news. I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease 8 years ago at the age of 24. I was only given a 20% survival chance myself in the end, a bone marrow transplant saved me. It's very unsettling to see another young man who endured the same fight but lost, it just seems so indiscriminate in who it takes and who survives.
Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
tragic shame.
Was my fave player as everyone else was on the ronnie bandwagon i wanted to be diff and liked his style.
will be sorely missed on the circuit

Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
Choked me up when I heard this last night, I was under the impression that he was beating the cancer, had no idea he was close to dying. Little girl less than a year old - close to my heart coz my missus is 37 weeks pregnant.
Along with Matthew Stevens he is the best player ever not to win the world title (even better than Jimmy White)
So Sad :(
Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
I think it's the fact he has a young family that makes it so tragic :-\
Re: RIP Paul Hunter 1978-2006
Bit of a shock. He'd just had his ranking frozen so he could take the year off to help with his recovery.
He was always going to be world class from his junior snooker days.
Ive had the honour of respotting colours and calling his breaks for him whilst he's thrashing me. Nice guy and a great player.

That's really a shame, especially leaving behind a young daughter. Too bad :cwm10:
