Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
www.doghouseboxing.com
Last week Dan Rafael of ESPN.com confirmed that Roy Jones Jr vs Peter Manfredo was being discussed by both camps. With Manfredo's win this past Saturday over Joe Spina, the possiblities of Jones vs Manfredo has grown. However Rafael also reports that whether Jones-Manfredo comes off or not, Jim Thomas, advisor to Jones Jr is also working on another fight for Jones. Thomas told ESPN that he is talking to British promoter Dennis Hobson, who promotes Clinton Woods, about a rematch between Jones and Woods.
Thomas quoted by ESPN as saying that he is talking to Showtime about televising Woods-Jones II in "a March or April
time frame."
Thomas added that Jones would actually be willing to go to England to face Woods, but Thomas added: "but it depends on the money. I think Roy would go to the moon for enough money."
Thomas was not ruling out Manfredo, saying: "Ideally, Roy could fight Manfredo in January and then do the Clinton Woods fight on Showtime a few months later."
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
Id like to see this i really do feel the way clinton is fighting at the momment that he could beat RJJ. I'd like to see clinton rule the light heavies and i really do think he can do it! bring on tarver as well :P
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
I agree, even though Roy Jones Jr is a bit washed up nowadays, I think it'd be good for both fighters. Woods gets a shot to avenge his 6th round stoppage when RJJ was the king of boxing, and RJJ gets a shot at another title. I'd love to see it in Britain, but if that can't be made, I'd be happy just to see it!
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
Personally I thought Woods lost to Johnson last time out so doesn't really deserve a rematch with Jones Jr anyway
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
Would they be able to put up enough money to get Jones to come to England?
I'm just asking, I'm not sure how big Clinton is in England. Roy's still got that name factor though so it could probably sell tickets.
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
I would rather see Woods/RJJ 2 than RJJ/Manfredo. If Jones is trying to reestablish himself then he has to go for the Woods fight. It would be for a title and against an established fighter. Then we can really gauge how far RJJ is removed from his prime years, by comparing the first fight with this one. I think the Woods fight would make RJJ's current standing more clear.
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
jones would own woods easily. woods sucks
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
Woods is a decent fighter and champ, nothing else.
Sadly even a washed up RJJ would probably win.
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
woods is a good guy and he works hard but even as hes washed up i still see him outboxing clinton and getting a nice ud!!

I think it would be a better fight than RJJ Manfredo because neither RJJ nor Manfredo has any titles worth fighting for, and would have no attraction whatsoever outside of the US. I'd be happy to go up Yorkshire somewhere to watch RJJ in what would be his last hurrah. If Badi Ajamu rocked RJJ in the first, I think Woods' strength would really make him the favourite, and RJJ would be hard pushed to win. I didn't see enough speed and aversion of the opponent from Roy last time, so who knows...a bit more training and he might get one last world title, though I dont think he would myself.
Re: Possible Jones Jr.-Clinton Woods rematch?
Throw enough leather and Jones wont fight back, Johnson showed it and we all know Clinton can match Johnson.
A bit of a hollow victory but I think Clinton wins a decision.
