Most hyped match in boxing history
What is the most hyped match in boxing history? My vote goes with Tito Vs Oscar but the fight did not deliver the way the rest of them with the exception of Tyson Holyfield but I had to mention that fight because of it being the highest PPV fight in history (I believe) are there any other fights that should be on the list?

Yea the original Tyson Vs Holyfield would have held the record if Tyson would not have gotten hurt, damn I needed that fight.
Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
Leonard vs Hagler.
Ali vs Foreman.
Tyson vs Holy.
PBF vs Hatton ;)
Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
De La Hoya Vs Trinidad no doubt.
Oscar said: "I wanted to show the public I could box"
What he really ment to say was: "I was afraid to go toe to toe with Tito"
At least that is what it looked like to me when I watched the fight.
I love Oscar but the judges did not rob Oscar. Oscar robbed himself. He let it go to the judges and to make matters worse, he put on his track suit in the final two rounds. Bad move by Oscar. Do I think Oscar won that fight? Who cares! I am glad they gave that fight to Tito LMAO! The stupid look on Oscars face after that fight was just priceless.

I believe Oscar Vs PBF has the potential to surpass them all.

Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
I have to go with Jack Johnson vs. Jim Jeffries. The white race couldn't believe a black man could be the heavyweight champion. A number of people died as a result of Johnson beating Jeffries. The films of the fight were banned for years and it was a long time before a black man (Joe Louis) fought for the title.
Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
Dempsey-Willard
Holmes-Cooney
Chavez-Taylor
Pryor-Arguello
Leonard-Hagler
Hagler-Hearns
Leonard-Hearns
Lewis-Tyson (that was ALL HYPE)
Tyson-Holyfield
Lewis-Rahman II
Bowe-Holyfield I-III
Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
Dempsey against Carpentier was the first million dollar gate so must have been a big one.
Re: Most hyped match in boxing history
Don't know how old some of you guy's are but Ali and Foreman was almost like an international event....This had leaders of countrys involved in it....It was bankrolled by their national banks....Ali/Frazier...Was also huge..........I also don't remember their being as much talk about DLH VS Trinidad as there was Leonard Hearns or Leonard Hagler...............

Yeah I agree, especially over here in the UK ask the average man on the street whether they watched the De La Hoya Trinidad fght I'm fairly certain at least 75% would have no idea who you were talking about.
Whatever the biggest gates in history were they would have had to include either Ali, Tyson, Leanard, Hearns or Hagler, possibly Duran too.
Give any other names and I simply won't believe you.

that fight wasn't even close....the Ali-Frazier fight completely separated the United States!!!! It was for a brief moment bigger than boxing itself.......
