Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
Sheffield's Clinton Woods is being lined up for a rematch with American legend Roy Jones Jr next spring.
Woods, the IBF light heavyweight champion, was outclassed by Jones, who is currently without a title, in 2002.
"Jones says he'd be willing to come over to England and all you can do is take him at his word," Woods' promoter Dennis Hobson told BBC Sport.
"To bring Roy Jones over here would be another coup for us and Clinton would get a substantial purse."
Hobson revealed he has also been talking to representatives of former light heavyweight king Antonio Tarver, but Jones is the number one target.
The 37-year-old from Florida is a former three-weight world champion and was near the peak of his powers when he stopped Woods in six rounds in Portland.

However, he has lost three of his last four encounters, including a ninth-round knockout at the hands of Glen Johnson, who Woods outpointed in September.
Hobson added: "He's said he'd come over to England before, but it's different now. Jones needs Clinton a lot more now because he wants to stay at the top, and Clinton's bang at the top."
Jones' advisor Jim Thomas has been quoted as saying that American TV network Showtime are interested in showing Woods-Jones II in March or April.
As for Tarver, he won a rubber match with Jones last year but was defeated by former middleweight king Bernard Hopkins in June.

Also aged 37, Tarver may also view a clash with Woods as one final big pay-day before he hangs up his gloves.
Hobson also revealed that he had approached former super middleweight world champion Jeff Lacy, who was taken apart by Joe Calzaghe in March.
"We tried Lacy, but he's got no interest in fighting Clinton at light heavyweight," said Hobson.
"I'm still interested in the Calzaghe fight. The problem we've got is that (Calzaghe's promoter) Frank Warren wants to keep control and the offer he's making us is not enough.
"My offer to Calzaghe is substantially more than what he's offering us to control the promotion."
Woods is currently recuperating after what Hobson describes as a minor operation to repair a tendon in his left forearm and will be in full training in about five weeks.
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
I still think Roy can beat Woods, i think he has the style to give him fits not as clinical as the first fight but i fancy RJJ UD.
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
If Jones go's to England ill give him alot of credit! He should beat Woods again,
should be a great fight though!
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
I didnt see the first Ill admitt, but didnt Jones whoop him?
Jones should fight easier opposition hes past his prime. Dont hurt your legacy.

heres clip of round 6 where jones beats down woods
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
Jones was pretty damned awsome that night. Lot of water under the bridge since then. I fancy Clinton to keep enough leather on him to win a decision.

Ice see if you can dig up Footage of Roy vs prince....Then Clintons last fight against Johnson..
Imbedd them on a post so we can do some film analysis ;)
Because going by memory Roy was moving the same in his last fight with the Prince as he is Against Clinton...Legs appear to be the same as well along with the handspeed....I havent seen Clinton fight since then so I cant guage the progress.....Thanks Bro
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
woods will ose to jones again. big mistake for woods
Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
This fight would be good for both camps I think. Woods gets to avenge his drubbing by RJJ, and RJJ looked very impressive indeed in that fight, a lightning performance. For RJJ, he gets a shot at the Light-Heavy IBF title, against one of the champions who is, even he would admit, not a silky boxer, and could be the most suited to RJJ's style.

Re: Woods camp chasing Jones rematch
Can & can't understand why Wood's camp would risk a fight against Jones.
Jones will come to win...not that Woods won't...but I still think that Jones has what it takes to beat Woods.

maybe because he wants to revenge his loss ?? he revenged it against johnson he must be feeling very good about himself so he must think why not try avenge my other loss then go after calzaghe
