Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark

by Dan Rafael
After a rough patch of mediocre fights on HBO's "Boxing After Dark," it might have a winner when middleweight banger Edison Miranda (26-1, 23 KOs) of Colombia faces Willie Gibbs (20-1, 16 KOs), a cousin of Bernard Hopkins, in the Dec. 16 main event at the Miccosukee resort in Miami. The sides made a deal Thursday. Miranda is coming off a highly controversial decision loss to titlist Arthur Abraham in Germany on Sept. 23. In his last fight, Gibbs, of Philadelphia, rallied to stop Lenord Pierre in the 12th round of an explosive action fight in March.

I'll be rooting for Gibbs, and it should be exciting while it lasts but he's too easy too hit and a bit chinny. Miranda TKO
here's the rest of Rafael's notebook, there's always good stuff in there:

I do NOT want to see this fight!!! I really dig Gibbs and he has a good future. And I dig Miranda too and think he has a good future. Why do they have to fight each other? Why not just have them on the same card.
Re: Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark
It should be entertaining at least. I'm not on the Miranda bandwagon but I expect him to be too strong for Willie.
Re: Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark
Bad ass!!! I like both guys too. Gibbs has the better boxing ability and will have to use it if he's gonna beat this freakin powerhouse, Miranda. Course Miranda can be rocked, but I ain't seen him down let alone out like Gibbs. Should be a great fight. Good news.

Cuz that's what fighters are suppose to. Fight each other. What you rather see them fight bums instead?

I'd rather see Gibbs fighting Lenord Pierre in a rematch
And Miranda fighting Pavlik
;)

Its good matchmaking, it almost can't possilbly be boring, no matter how long it lasts.
Gibbs might have the better boxing ability in that he's a bit more refined offensively but he's really not very hard to hit. I could see Gibbs rocking Miranda at some point but Miranda seems to recover pretty well.
Also no Junior Witter-Hopkins fight, Witter apparently wouldn't be able to make weight in the month or so before the fight was supposed to happen.
Re: Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark
Nice fight either way. My pick is Miranda though. Especially after the way he lost that last fight, I think someone is gonna have to pay for that one.
Re: Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark
Good fight for the fans...bad fight for Willie, IWO.
Miranda by brutal stoppage.
Re: Edison Miranda-Willie Gibbs on Boxing after Dark
Congratulations Pantera!!
This is BIG news. Obviously HBO sees something they like in Miranda and have granted him a main event on their Dec 16th card.
I agree with above, after what happened in Germany, Miranda will be taking that loss out against Gibbs.
