Moorer plans return to the ring
It looks like Michael Moorer's second retirement from boxing will be shorter than his first.
Moorer, who turns 39 next month, will return to the ring Dec. 9 in Hollywood, Fla. His opponent has not yet been announced.
The Monessen High graduate recently began training again a short time ago and it was kept under wraps to the public.
Moorer will be fighting out of the Warriors Boxing camp.
Leon Margules, promoter for Warriors, recently told espn.com that Moorer "wants to get a couple of wins, get back in the rankings, and challenge for a world title."
With a few wins, Moorer could move up the ranking quickly if for no other reason than the heavyweight division lacks big-name fighters.
The four current heavyweight champions hail from all four corners of the former Soviet Union. They include Ukrainian Wladimir Klitschko (International Boxing Federation), Russian Nicolai Valuev (World Boxing Association), Kazakhstan's Oleg Maskaev (World Boxing Council) and Belarusian Sergei Liakhovich (World Boxing Organization.
Moorer has not fought since December 2004 when he scored a ninth-round TKO of Vassiliy Jirov.
During his career, Moorer has a record of 47-4-1 (37 knockouts). After Moorer retired in 1997, he took a three-year hiatus from the sport. After he returned, he went 8-2-1.

yep moorer was explosive and chilling as a light heavyweight. would of loved of seen him in the ring with the best light heavies of his era such as prince charles williams, virgil hill and jeff harding. would of also have been fascinating to see him against fellow kronk gym members thomas hearns and dennis andries. i think he would have beaten them all apart from hill
Re: Moorer plans return to the ring
Hey he was the light heavyweight champ who won the undisputed heavyweight title in my eyes he is a great.
But he shouldn't return to the ring, he could and should have stayed with Manny Stewart.
But his last fight was a knockout over Jirov, the only man to do that. Thats not a bad fight to retire on
Re: Moorer plans return to the ring
Did anyone see the Friday night fights within the past year that had Moorer as a guest? He was thinking about coming back then as well, then Teddy Atlas told him he shouldn't and Moorer agreed to never come back. It's all for the love of money.
Re: Moorer plans return to the ring
Moorer was a fighting beast at 175 but I remember how Manny Steward said it was killing him to make the weight. Too bad the cruiserweight level was at 190 pounds instead of 200 like it is now. He would have dominated that division for 10 years.

That's easy to say. But in reality I don't blame Moorer for moving up. Cuz there is noway he would of made the millions he made as a Light Heavyweight. Still this comeback won't end good.
Re: Moorer plans return to the ring
moorer needs to stay in retirement... he just risks serious injury and tarnishing a pretty good reputation.
and further more he will just encourage gearge foreman to come back and become a three time world heavywieght champion! lol
peace

I think Moorer can make a run if he is serious about the comeback and gets in great shape.
Maybe he will get revenge on Foreman!
