couple of basic questions
i have something called funnel chest, it's not a severe case but i'm a little worried. i'm 17 and trying to find a local boxing gym to join, but before that i want to see if it's possible to box with funnel chest.
is curling productive for a boxer? i'm up to 32lbs right now, and someone i know says you shouldn't go above 20lbs.
should you jog everyday? and when should you start dashing inbetween jogging?
sorry for all the questions, i can't quite afford to join a gym yet. trying to start a training routine.
Re: couple of basic questions
funnel chest: don't know. talk to yuor doctor. likely it would only stop you from going pro, if anything. you can be mentally retarded and still box for fun. We have a down's kid at our gym.
curling: wouldn't be my first choice. my first would be push ups. my biceps have gotten bigger from throwing medicine balls against brick walls and from hitting the bag.
jogging: conditioning is over-rated. Just don't let it go past 3 rounds. ;D just mix it up. 15minutes of jogging, 5-10 of sprints.
Re: couple of basic questions
should i join a gym then? my friend wants me to go with him since i'm taking up boxing, but it's all weightlifting there. i need to build up my muscles, but i'm not sure where to start.
my home workout routine is ten pullups, fourty pushups, 12 curls of 32lbs, 75 crunches, and i usually do 30 squats but since i started jogging i stopped that. that's all done consecutively, i don't stop to take a break inbetween any of those. i also only do it once, i don't do it again after like 20 minutes or so. is this a good start? thanks for all your advice too. i really apreciate it.
Re: couple of basic questions
Curling is not good for boxing. Because its all focused on the biceps it can shorten the muscle, slowing down punches.
Re: couple of basic questions
what's a good workout for a starting boxer? i'm already in fair shape, the workout i mentioned i did everyday except wednsday and saturday. i'm probably at a begginers level for jogging. i really want to get started on training but i have no idea what to do.
Re: couple of basic questions
That workout your doing is good for conditioning, but you wont build up any muscles doing that.
Best way to build muscles is, to do weights....but by doing them RIGHT.
Dont curl, or extend, or kickback or any of those other isolation movements that will slow your boxing game down.
Use whole compound movements that work all of the body at the same time.
There are 4 major exercises= Deadlift, Military press, Bench press Squat.
If you do those twice a week, for 4 sets for 6 reps. You WILL build muscle (as long as your eating properly, but thats a different discussion altogether)
Id say go to the gym with your friend.
