Former world champion Halimi dies
France's former world bantamweight champion Alphonse Halimi has died at the age of 74.
The Algerian-born boxer won the world crown in April 1957, outpointing Italy's Mario a'Agata.
He held the title for two years but eventually lost it in a title defence to Mexican Joe Becerra in Los Angeles.
One of his most famous fights came in 1960 when he beat England's Freddy Gilroy for the European title. "Today I have avenged Jeanne d'Arc," he said.
Halimi had been suffering in recent years from Alzheimer's disease and developed pneumonia in June.

R.I.P.
Halimi thanks for the memories.
The 2 fights against Becerra are unforgetable.... :) (Though I've only seen the 1st :-\ )
And your win over 'El Raton' Macias though contreversial was a great fight...
