ODH Vs Mayweather! Does the winner take the better legacy or..........

Is this fight a lose lose situation for Mayweather or will his legacy skyrocket if he should beat De La Hoya. De La Hoya may be beyond his prime butt his advantage in size and power makes the fight and even fight. If Floyd beats him will they say Oscar was over the hill and give him very little credit or will it enhance his legacy beyond what he expected it to be. I can tell you this much if Oscar scores a victory people will claim him with the all time greats (Top 10) because of his star power. It seems that everytime Floyd scores a victory people come up with an excuse.

I think there will be a split in the fans.. I for one, should MAyweather win, will consider him perhaps the best ever, or second to RJJ at least. While others will say Oscar wasn't sharp, and Oscar wasn't this or that. There will always be arguments of current great fighters because back in the day guys like Robinson lost fights to other guys which made rivalries, while RJJ in his prime dominated everyone, and except one fight so has Mayweather, and but both proved their superiority emphatically in the next fight. I think people can't appreciate a fighter who is far superior to other fighters, and I don't know why. In other sports Ronaldinho who takes time of alot on the field is hailed as the greatest footballer because he is the best, and in football current players, like Peyton Manning, Marvin Harrison, LeDanian Tomlinson, Tom Brady are all glorified.

Yes, I think it would be safe to say the winner does indeed take the better legacy, as long as their is a decisive win one way or the other... It will be pathetic to hear those who try and discredit Mayweather should he win this fight. Hell, if he wins a decision and doesn't try and KO Oscar you'll proably hear these morons saying the same crap they were after Baldomir.

ODH takes the better legacy regardless of the fight outcome. He's done way more, and always fought a high caliber of fighters.

Mayweather might have beaten plenty of greats from the past, but that doesn't mean he would have a greater legacy. I think Mayweather is great, but I don't think any of his fights are all that memorable.

Floyd is moving up a weight and ODLH is a bit past his best. Whoever wins is the better fighter IMO.

Oscar has the legacy, and Mayweather is starting to build his. Oscar's legacy will not be ruined with a loss, Mayweather's would.

But do you honestly feel it would be the same kind of criticism coming to DLH if he wins? I think it would be more like ppl trying to say Floyd was overrated, but DLH is still the greatest ever for beating him. I just don't get the sense that there is nearly as much hate for Oscar as there is for Floyd, noone want's to see Oscar get his ass kicked the same way many do Floyd.

Great points/insight from all you guys, cc's to all! I think it's an important fight for Mayweather to win, and if in fact he does retire it will be impressive with the caliber of fighters he's fought and the fact he still has the "0" in the L column. Oscar is a great/exciting fighter, but he's had some questionable fights and decisions and he's got 4 losses. I think in retrospect whoever wins this fight will be considered to have the greater legacy. However, it'll be easy to make excuses for either fighter: for DLH one would say he was past his prime and for PBF one could say it was his size disadvantage. Down the road people aren't going to be "hating" on any fighter...a good example of that is Ali...in his day he was despised by as many people as admired him, same with PBF in this day. But in the future when they look back they will just see the skill and who he beat.

Floyd had a lot more "exciting" fights in his 130-140 days. I also thought his destruction of Gatti was very memorable.

I half agree, and half don't. Mayweather already beaten a plethora of great fighters, and he has been in the top 5 p4p for more than half his career. His legacy is there, but whether he will be in the top ten ever or not will be decided by this fight, and maybe a fight with Mosley/Wright/Paquaio... If he does decide to quit after two fights don't expect him to ever have to dig as deep as Robinson had to, to win some of his fights, or Leonard against Hearns. Because Mayweather is superior to them and his current opponents.

I think that says it. If his most memorable fight is beating up on club fighter Gatti, then he has a stretch at coming close to De la Hoya's legacy. De La Hoya beat the crap out of Gatti, and nobody bothers to remember that uneventful tune-up match.
