Big change actually weight 125 not 225
Allright well a little basic info first. One of my friends has been getting really into boxing recently and I think im going to start doing it soon. Although the gym im interested in has around a 1 year waiting period because it is one of the best in new england. I could possibly start a a smaller gym though. Im 15 years old soon to be 16 and am 5"6 and around 120-125 pounds. Im not in that great of shap especially with running but am getting much better. I am going to be training my self at my house for a while and heres a routine I have planned out. Let me know your oppionios and also suggestions are very welcome.
Monday- Stretching first, shadow boxing 4 rounds of 3 minutes, heavy bag 4 rounds of 3 minutes possibly twice in the day, Jump rope 15 mins, breaks as needed, and jog for 15 minutes 3 times through out the day I also may do some stairs. On all days I will use the pads when some one is available to hold them for me. Also every night I will do 100 pushups and situps.
Tuesday- Work out at the YMCA, low weight with reps of around 10 Heavy bag same as bove and again pads if available.
Wednesday- Same as Monday
Thursday- Same as tuesday
Friday- Same as monday
Saturday- Monday work out with also going to the YMCA.
Sunday- Will be a resting day but I may also do some punching.
Please guys I really need some opinions on this. Some diet suggestions would also be prety helpful. Im thinking a big breakfast with carbohydrates eat as many fruits and vegetaables as possible. Im also taking a prety good vitamin and creatine. I drink a lot of milk as well.
Re: New boxer routines ?s
I'm pretty new to it myself, been in for about 7-8 months now. Just had my first amateur exhibition fight a few days ago. If your not too much of a runner, I'd suggest just doing 15 minutes once every day, and when you feel better, add more minutes (running is one thing I am experienced with). if you do it three times a day, you'll be prone to skipping and then you might find yourself skipping the run altogether. Once you get the running base down, you might want to do hillwork or speedwork. And with your home training, I can't offer a ton of advice since I still consider myself pretty new to boxing, but make sure you have the technique right when you do your shadowboxing and heavy bag, or you might develop some bad habits.
Re: New boxer routines ?s
Ya im trying to make sure my stance and hands and everything are right for that.Ive been watching a lot of instructional videos and such to see how its done, and thanks for the help. How did your fight go by the way?

Ummm... 5'6" 225lbs? Is that fat or muscle? If it's fat, then don't worry too much about your diet. Once you start exercising regularly, the pounds will come off in a big hurry. In terms of diet, I would suggest portion control, unless you are currently eating absolute garbage.
Your workout looks okay, depending on your level of experience. If you are just starting out, it may be a bit much. I would add another rest day. I don't understand why you are lifting low weights though. I know everyone has different ideas about lifting, I'm one of those guys who likes more weight with less reps to get strong. Someone with more expertise can be of more help I'm sure.
I hope everything works out for you. :thumb:
Re: New boxer routines ?s
At that weight I would NOT advise running. Power walk 30 mins everyday. 60 at the weekends. Yeah I know it sounds girly but you won't be messing up your kness, hips and back and you will be burning fat. If it's good enough for the professionals at my local gym it's good enough for you. ;)
If you're out of shape your routine is too much to begin with. Try one day on one day off, but walk 6 days a week. If you're feeling extra energetic walk 30 am then 30mins pm. (or work up to this) you know your fitness level.
If you walk before you train I would do loose shadow boxing 2x2 to fully warm up. Then 4x 2 on the bags. A futher 2x2 focused shadow boxing then do your conditioning (you could do this in rounds, eg 10 squats, 10 pressups, 10 dips, 10 sit-up, 10 squat thrusts that's 1 round! rest for 1 minute then do another round) followed by jumping rope 3x2. Walk round shake out your arms & legs and stretch.
That is plenty for a beginner at your age and weight IMO.
I would always advise doing speed/skill work before conditioning.
I don't know why you're jogging 3x15 a day ???
Re: Big change please look at again
Ya big mistype above im actually 120-125 pounds haha definetly no where near 220-225. Ya im changing the running to just onc e a day for 15 minutes and thanks for the other work out tips. I will be doing low weight high reps because that is what ive got from many people on what is good for boxers.
Re: Big change actually weight 125 not 225
heh... didn't want to say nothing but if you where 5 foot 6 and 250 punds or what ever you said then...
ouch... :P
Re: Big change actually weight 125 not 225
that does sound like a lot of work.
from what I've learnt you definitely should have another rest day, if your just a new guy to training 6/7 days of training isn't wise. I'm new to it as well and I'm doing around 4 days of training a week (Monday,Tuesday,Thursday and Friday),but i walk/jog every day for about 30/35 Min's.
I'm around your weight and i would suggest lighting up a bit.
this was all IMO if your unhappy with anything i said don't take it to seriously I'm just giving you some suggestions. :)
Re: Big change actually weight 125 not 225
