Marvin Hagler on Calzaghe and Hatton
Hagler on Calzaghe
"I knew the first time I saw Calzaghe that he really had something, he went in there completely unfazed against (Chris) Eubank which nobody else had done. Eubank was the guy who usually seemed to have control of everything around him but the way Calzaghe went in there and manhandled him like that...
"I was watching it in Italy, it was the same night England beat Italy to qualify for the soccer World Cup.
"Calzaghe showed and proved power, speed, strength, workrate, stamina, chin, heart and every tangible and intangible that night and that's why I'm not suprised that he's not lost since.
"Sometimes it's like watching a welterweight or junior-middleweight in a super-middleweight's body because he's so nimble and sharp handed. I would never bet against him."
Hagler on Hatton
"The Ricky Hatton that fought Kostya Tszyu beats absolutely anybody at 140 pounds.
"He can work his way in on his toes with that skilful jab or he can close that gap like lightning. He's got all the punches, all the moves, very strong in the legs, great, great tempo and (he) mixes it up.
"And he seemed prepared to walk through a landslide if need be on that night when he fought Kostya Tszyu - just to get his hands on the title.
"I'd seen clips of him destructing through everybody but always wondered how he'd cope if he was backed up. I thought Ben Tackie might be too much for him but he proved that night he can switch it up and box beautifully if need be.
"You didn't see the best of him against (Luis) Collazo. What I say is everybody is allowed one bad day at the office and that was his."

Nice read :coolclick:
I like Hagler but i always get the feeling he's paid to say nice things.... Especialy in Britain.
He's right though.
Re: Marvin Hagler on Calzaghe and Hatton
Nice words from the Marvelous one.
I agree with the Chris Eubank fight, it was spectacular and Calzaghe was having his way with Eubank. Calzaghe was doing the Ali shuffle and the Ray Leonard (watch this) a la Apollo Creed. Granted the Eubank fight was nearly 10 years ago, I still do not think Manfredo will do any damage here against the veteran. I hope he knocks Peter out. I know I said I wanted Peter to win but phuk him. I am hoping he gets owned like Lacy did.
And the Ricky Hatton that stopped Kostya Tszyu? Get the phuk outta here.! Hatton was a beast and still is @ 140. I could not believe my eyes when I saw Kostya Tszyu refusing to get up to finish the fight :o holla!

Holla? Okay: ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH!!!
Totally agree with him. Hatton looked great against the ONE name on his record. He faced nobodies at 140lbs...& you rake Floyd over the coals.
Now everybody scream: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
**Nobody need resort to Mamma jokes over that one. That one was just for Danny G. ;D
Re: Marvin Hagler on Calzaghe and Hatton
Who else here would love to see a fantasy fight between Hagler and Calzaghe? Joe breaking his left hand on Marvin's bald head before being pounded along the ropes and shit, or picking Marvin off with fast combinations?
Man, that would of been a war. Both hard-headed.

I have only seen a couple of fights for both guys. Definitely agree that the Hatton that fought Tszyu wasn't the same one that showed up against Collazo. He seemed much more motivated for the Tszyu fight. He was unbeleivably driven that night, coming forward so fast and hard, I still think his shoulders and rest of his body did as much damage to Tszyu as his fists did, but he still won.

Definently would have been interesting.
There are times when Joe is so fast on his feet that it almost looks like he's running circles around his man while flurrying.
Not running away either.
In the end...I think that his foot movement would have caused Hagler some serious issues...but I gotta agree & :coolclick: on the fact that his hands just wouldn't hold up on the WAR HORSE's noggin.
Re: Marvin Hagler on Calzaghe and Hatton
