Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
Takes a very strong character to come back from the type of beating that Joe gave him and the fight i saw on saturday was a disgrace imo.
Lacy knew he'd lost that and i had him down by 2 rounds at the end just like these lot did ;)

Tsypko was robbed plain and simple and the judging stank out the venue (All at the mates of Smash house agreed too).
Lacy is now out for roughly 12 months which means he'll be knocking on 31 on his return and well, well down the rankings with fighters such as Froch inevitably leap frogging him in that period.
I honestly think it is a huge ask for him to claw his way back from this injury.
And when Tsypko had him wobbling in the 8th round the Lacy that got bashed by Joe appeared to be back with us as he flinched and scrambled his way out of trouble before the bell went.
As above, when you recieve a beating like he did a piece of you stays in that ring and once the fighter is beat out of you,you can never get it back!! (Tyson/Lewis)-(Barrera/Naseem) to name a few!
I feel sorry for Lacy because he is what we need more of in the fight game at present and is exciting to watch but this latest set back could be more a mental thing than physical and i just can't see him winning titles again at world level.
I hope im wrong but he really is up against a world of sh*t.
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
I think disgrace is a bit strong, I had Tsypko a couple up as well but its not like he swept the scorecards. Lacy will get left behind by a few names but he did establish himself as a champion and a 'name' so he will only ever be a couple of fights away from a shot. I feel bad for Lacy, he wants to clear his name so to speak and now the chance to do so has been taken away. I bet on the quiet he is hoping that Calzaghe batters everyone in sight to help him out a little, just to show that it was more to do with how good Joe is rather than how bad he is.
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
I was properly shocked at the Judges decision to be honest mate.
Hate it when deserved fighters are mugged.
Take football for instance when say a goal is disallowed or a player is wrongly sent off and it costs them the game, they have 40 odd other games to reverse it but fighters risk their lives every time they climb through the ropes and only usually have one shot at that opponent.
Tsypko fought a great fight and showed loads of 'hole' ;D with his cut, surviving two ferocious opening rounds then dominating much of the remaining fight only to be 'Home town Judged" out of it.
Makes me angry when i see that.
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
I thought they got it wrong to (as did everyone including team Lacy) but I wasnt shocked. Its no different over here. I wonder if Lacy's mob slipped Tsypko a few quid more like fight acadamy did for Glenn Johnson when he got a 'draw' with Clinton first time around ;D

I knew my ears were ringing you Bastage ;D your that Guy arent you Smash??? The 1st time I visit the UK board and your the Mod :lolhaha: then you got my name on here listen I dont swing that way cupcake so try to supress the urges ....
Seriously its kind of hard to defend against incoming punches when your Cuff is torn and cant get your hands up to defend and you know that, it makes sense that if he was dominating the fight up to a point and then the injury occurs and it went down hill from there... Thats why his defense seemed to be worse than usual and kept eating the right hand of Tyspko consistently...Although I agree after a year off alot will change and getting back to the top will be tough task

Hell I love the UK got Some Family over there and even Visited..Probably the best people I have ever partied with...But as you know Smash I like to air it out all in good fun.... ;D
But to answer the title to the thread...Unfortunately Joe definetly shook his confidence though, I dont believe he beat the fighter out of him Jeff has proven his heart is huge and will not Quit... ;)
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
I think it actually detracts from Joes win. A bit like when Johnson pummelled RJJ after Tarver had 'exposed' him.
I also think it highlights that it's not just the Brits that overhype thier domestic talent...

:goodpost: - didn't see the fight myself
It's got to be very hard under, any circumstances, to come back from a beating like the one he took from JC. Add 12 months out to the equation and I just can't see him being a force again :-\
Shame :(
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
I thought Lacy lost the other night but it was close. He has a genuine excuse with the busted shoulder. And Tsypko was a bad choice of opponent for a fighter looking to regain his confidence/way.
And I don't think Lacy's performance takes much away from the Cazlaghe win
Lacy turned up to fight Cazlaghe as the rightful no.1 in the division and favourite to destroy this old British fraudster...Maybe Lacy was mainly hype, but Calzaghe's brilliant performance and manner of victory that night surely overshadows that.

Yes its pretty hard to be critical over Joe's win when Jeff was dominating his own opponents......Saywhat you will that fight helped get Joe's name out more in the states... Listen Joe's got his own proving to do, After a performance like that night I wish he would step up the quality of opponent, I for one would like to see Joe showcase his skills on the biggest stages against the worthiest of opponents

Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
Lacy showed a lot of heart in his loss to Calzaghe, and also in his 'win' the other night. I definitely agree that he left a bit of him in the ring against Joe and will not get it back. Most of it, though, is the loss of reutation. I mean, Jeff was portrayed as the second coming of Iron Mike and I think he won some fights by intimidating people. he will have lost that forever now.
Notwithstandinig this damaged shoulder thing, we'll never know if it's true or not, I think both fights showed some faults in Lacy's tchnique and he did come over as a bit of a one-dimensional fighter - no plan B, no improvisation etc. What is not in question is his chin or his heart, so he has the basics there to build on - I think everyone hyped him too much and thought he was the finished article (I think Calzaghe was surprised at how easy he could hit him)
I hope he comes back, as he can bang and is a talented guy, but he maybe needs to really look at his training backup?
Re: Has Calzaghe helped start the demise of Lacy.?
If i were him id be straight on the phone to Freddy Roach ;)
Paquiao was largely a one handed fighter till Roach got him fighting with both and he's a much much better fighter for it.
