In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
Just out of curiosity....I watched the Quintana VS Cotto fight again yeaterday....Without all this P4P talk and that other stuff that usually goes with it....Who thinks Cotto in about a year would be the Toughest fight of PBF's career....PBF doesnt have the power to hurt him and I was suprised about Cottos speed it is deciving,,,and his power at 147 seems even better especially once he gets a few more bouts under his belt at 147 to really get comfortable with it....Just curious on everyones thoughts?

Im not sure that Cotto would be able to beat Floyd. I am very sure that he would give Floyd a tough, realy tough fight though. As you say he is quick, powerful, skilled, decent defense he is a very very good fighter IMO. I think Floyd edges anyone right now ATM though at welter or light welter, just too much in the locker. Floyd UD.

Agreed that is why I said Scare.....Also thats why I added a year...IMO Cotto is improving...If he improves as a boxer and gets a little more sound technicly ( how ever you spell it) it would be a great fight....PBF is hands down the more skilled fighter but Cotto has the goods...just an observation is all
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
Cotto is proving more and more that he is indeed the total package fighter. Very technical and very powerful and the move up in weight made him more stable. I will not be surprised that in late '07 or early '08 he will become the number 1 P4P fighter in the world. PBF will be in a world of hurt when he faces this kid.
Cotto has youth, power and skills all in his side!!!
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life??
I think within a couple of years it could well be the biggest fight out there for both men.
I know people (foolishly imo) label Floyd as boring but honestly I can't think of many more pant moistingly good fights as Cotto vs Maywather.
If Cotto continues to improve it could have the potential to be a mega fight on the scale of Leonard vs Duran even.
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
i think his power would give him fits if he could land while Floyd was running around the ring trying to steal rounds....
but i think all the Floyd hype will be gone after an aging DLH is done with him if im honest ;)
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
cotto would hit floyd the hardest hes eevr beeen hit....and i think he could land one of those debilitating body shots and put PBF down.

Truthfully...I'm a big Cotto fan...to the degree that I could be called a "nuthugger" as most bitter queens try to apply that terminology...& there is no way in my mind that I could see Cotto beating or actually even hurting Floyd.
Cotto was ringside at the Brusselles fight for a reason. Bruseles was Cotto's sparring partner in preperation for the Bailey fight & from what I read about Bruseles he gave Cotto a few shakey moments. If you watch Bruseles fight...he either fights very similar to Cotto or tries to mimick him.
Cotto got all he needed sitting ringside when Mayweather stopped Bruseles for the WBC Light Welterweight eliminator. Floyd was ahead between 6 to 8 points on the cards going into the 8th round, he then knocked Bruseles down two or three times and the doc called a halt to it & justly so.
That's about the first time that I've ever see Cotto's expression do an about face like that.
Cotto knows better...& if his fans are smart...they'll no better than to ask for the match to materialize. Myself? I don't want to see Cotto humiliated like that.
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
I don't think Cotto would be that big of a problem for PBF... he isn't quick enough.
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life??
Not just yet but give Miguel a bit more time at 147 and then he will be..PBF may be much much faster but Cotto would bang to his body like no one else has,and Cotto hits harder than anyone Floyd has faced. Also,if Cotto's camp is to be believed,Miguel will no longer have the rounds off which he had at 140,so it'll be constant pressure now. I can imagine those hooks hurting Floyd, and when Miguel switch hits,he could confuse Floyd too...
And as for Brusseles,Wack you are correct that Cotto sparred with him but as we all know sparring is one thing and an actual fight something else first and second, like I said,Cotto will be an improved fighter at 147.
No way would it be a blow out as some think and also,it would be a fight which Floyd, for once in a long long time, would NOT be guaranteed/uber hot favourite to win unlike Baldo,Mitchell etc.....

:coolclick: Agreed 100%. Cotto is wide open to be countered when he goes to the body & Floyd's known for lying on the ropes, taking it to the body, & then hammering out quick short counter hooks up stairs.
Cotto does not need to take this fight if the option arrizes again.

I know...but you also know that some of the best things are found out during sparring matches. Cotto was there & saw how easily Floyd handled him. If Cotto is anything...he's a student of the game...Floyd is three times his superior IWO.
I aint saying Floyd is unbeatable...but it's going to take someone much bigger & equally as fast to handle him.

You make valid points but I'll wait and see what happens with Cotto,at the moment though,he looks a dangerous propostion for anyone. And you can nullify speed with bodywork,a good jab and good handspeed, ingredients Cotto possesses. I don't think Cotto would win just yet but he would be trouble.

I agree with you there...about the body work shutting down speed...I just don't see him being able to catch Floyd with anything meaningful other that body shots. Cotto is one of the most devastating body workers in the game...but you have to really work to get to Floyd's ribs & when you do...his elbows often come down at just the right moment.
I don't know...maybe I'm cutting Cotto short...but I've followed Cotto ever since he went pro. I love the guy...he get's a lot of flack & disdain from some extremely critical & doubtful fans...I just think that it's terribley unfounded. I'd hate to come across as one of those people.

True,Floyd is awfully quick but I tell you something,if you're fast enough, there are a few times you can catch Floyd. When he jabs to body,he is open to a counter(right hand over the jab),when he rolls his shoulder,Jesus Chavez and De Marcus Corley landed looping right hands and because of the position Floyd is with his shoulder,it stunned him because he didn't see the punch coming and JLC worked head and body well in their first fight, confusing Floyd. I've never even seen anyone implement a good jab v Floyd, again, something which Cotto can do. I honestly think Floyd is one of the most talented fighters I have ever seen but I don't think he is unbeatable.
Re: In all Seriousness who thinks Cotto would give Floyd the scare of his life???
I think Cotto is the best for him....I mean he has more pop at 147 than Hatton he seems to lik ethe weight better and I doubt PBF could hurt him with ONE punch (he'd have to flurry)
Cotto goes to the body and if an arm gets in the way he'll hit that too as he did vs Branco....Cotto is a badass
Floyd would be the HEAVY favorite to run and pot shot and use every inch of the ring but I like Cotto's chances on catching him at least ONCE
