Floyd Mayweather, Too good to be true?

So i'll come out right now and say what the topic is about,
Floyd Mayweather..Is he too good to be true? Undefeatable?

Everybody knows if it looks to good to be true, It probably is.. But there's a reason why the saying says probably.. Floyd might be the probability..

I personally am guilty of having hated on Floyd perhaps unjustly, My personal favourite period in Floyd's career Is his period at Super Featherweight Carrying on his run of great opposition into Lightweight . We all love the great gifted fighters that win titles in 2,3,4,5 and 6 weight classes..We hate on some while they do so, but undoubtably its nothing short of incredible whether the opponents are questionable or not ( that's not making a dig if you wondered) For floyd it is 4, for oscar 6.. But its hard to truely understand how big a scale and how great a fighter is just by tuning in to they're fight, and at the end of the day that is four or six world champions, or world championship contender's in the case of fight's for vacant or tainted title's.
But i personally like to see a champion undisputed or virtually undisputed at his own wieght class.
That is why i favour Floyd's stint at the lower weights.

He faced fighters such as, Genaro Hernandez, Emanuel Augustus, Diego Corrales , Jesus Chavez then moving up to lightweight to fight his first fight at his new weight for a world title.
To fight for the lightweight world title first fight is very good, but to fight Jose Louis Castillo first fight at his new weight is on another level. It is not hard to see that Jlc is nothing short of a great, well rounded fighter who is tough as they come.
Perhaps the credit he deserved for fighting such a close fight with such a great opponent was overshadowed by the controversy of the decision, but none the less Floyd took the rematch next fight and there was no doubt about the outcome, another great name on the list for the pretty boy.
After his winning of the Castillo rematch he then went on to defend the title two times although not greatly named opponents i will mention his second defense, and last fight at lightweight,
which was against Phillip N'dou, I believe he was an african fighter, correct me if im wrong.
But i certainly don't begrudge the fight for not having been against a big named fighter.
I believe at the time Phillip N'dou at the time was 31-1-0 30 Knockouts.. Quite the impressive record.
No sheltered product either, he had fought in europe, africa , i beleive a couple of times in new york and certainly did not come to the fight to be a jobber.
At this point i will remind you of a fighter called Yory Boy campas.. Once owner of a good looking record of something around 57 wins 52 Knockouts no defeats, This was a very sheltered fighter with most of his fights bieng held in mexico, and before he fought felix trinidad nobody would fight him because of his record, Except at the time there was felix trinidad.
Anyway the point is whether a big name or not N'dou had alot of heart and was dangerous,
and floyd didnt fail to put on a show against a very strong willed fighter.

So at this point Floyd had faced great oppostition, remained undefeated and moved up yet another weight class in hopes of gaining yet another world title.
This is where i lost not my respect but more like my will to follow floyd mayweather and slowed down on giving him the credit he more then likely deserved.

He then went on to fight Demarcus Corley.. I personally give demarcus full credit for his career and acknowledge that he has fought some of the world's best undoubtably.
Correct me if im wrong but i beleive he looks after something like fourteen children..
He has somewhere around 7, and he looks after his deceased brother's children who are also around the number of seven.. Quite the burden for a skilled fighter who is probably an under achiever due to what he probably would not like to call a burden, But at the end of the day.. When you have that many mouths to feed on top of your own, You tend to fight more for your living and less for your legacy. But no doubt a fairly entertaining fight, Floyd stood toe to toe to put on a show, won comfortably.. Rocked for a split second to be honest, But not a worry for such a smart fighter..
Then came brusseles In the title eliminator, then on to gatti..
Now this is somewhat of the sore spot with Pbf fan's but i'll come right out and say it..
At this period floyd had made a great deal of money, He wouldnt mind more but was fighting somewhat false fights for gold presumably for his legacy , But having fought arturo gatti for a title arturo won from vacant was only good for his legacy in the eyes of the casual boxing fan.
Its plenty fair to say that at the time Kostya Tszyu was the Undisputed champion of the lww division who then lost this linear title to Ricky Hatton.
There has been much talk of what went on previous to floyd claiming what he himself called.....
' a paper belt ' And the dealings with a fight with ricky hatton the undisputed light welter champ.
Floyd says ricky priced himself out of the fight asking around $10 million.
Ricky says I have never personally been in major dealings with floyds camp regarding a bout, although that was an objective of his.
But even so.. if ricky were to have asked for ten million dollars.. That is around 5 million great british pounds, the amount that kostya Tszyu's purse was for fighting hatton for the title.
But anyway this is not the arguement just yet.
Next on the list, Sharmba Mitchell..New weight yet again welterweight.
A slightly past his prime mitchell, Although im not sure how sharmba measures up to floyd in his prime,
another stoppage win and a clear outclassing..If thats a word.
Then zab.. Interesting fight, Nicely promoted, Bit of a ruckus in the ring.. I imagine that made some ppv numbers, I give zab more credit then most.. And floyd credit for a good fight.
And finally carlos baldomir.. Which was made out to be an impossibility for Tata..
I argued something furious that it was not an impossibility and i personally feel i came up with some good points of how Carlos has his slight chances.. But i also went on the record saying..
Carlos could but he won't.. That it was improbably not impossible. So we all know floyd won..Did what he does..Never mind fan reaction the 0 did not go thats what matters.

So now..Floyd mayweather - Oscar de la hoya.. In may..

Does oscar beat floyd..I honestly dont know.. what do i say..
Here are some points but its too deep to call with certaintly...

Although i have said Floyd is not a power puncher at the higher weights, Honestly.. I dont know that do i.. Its a probability going by his record and having not put away many or the higher tier opponents at these higher wieghts.. But styles make fights, theres alot of factor's in fights and we can't just state with certainty that he's lost his power..Although he will be affected by yet another move up in weight class for his attempt at winning a fifth world title.
What i do feel comfortable saying is that floyd's chin is still holding up..
Twice have i ever seen him rocked personally.. And might i say only slightly rocked..
demarcus corley whilst trading punches shoulder to shoulder and floyd then defended all further attack and i dont believe even lost the round.
And against zab judah , zab landed a nice left hand flush and floyd shivered a little sat on the ropes and used that incredible shoulder roll defense of his, and all following blows were either grazing or missed.
Floyd is still fast, Has never been beaten on anywhere near enough to wake up one morning anytime soon and be a shot fighter.. And things still look good for him

Who can beat him?
Lets start with oscars chances..
Oscar.. Fairly fast.. Obviously so tough to call what was there to take away from the mayorga fight which was the only recent, But possibly mismatched fight he has had of late.
But personally I didnt see much if any slip up in speed.
He has certainly filled out well as he has aged and moved up in weight classes.. and looks pretty strong to me.. Certainly a good sign for the fight.
Personally.. I dont beleive his punches were quite as snappy as they have been in the mayorga fight..
Perhaps im wrong, Some might wonder what i mean by the snap on his punches.. Its to do with his technique and although still great.. I think Oscar does'nt have the same fire and will on his punches that he did when he was Younger, His power seems more blunted..But perhaps this is to do with change in weight classes.. Which is what i beleive.. Im not making out in any way shape or form that oscar is shot or even close to shot. I certainly have no case say comparing oscars punches against say felix trinidad at welterweight , To against mayorga a number of years later having filled out nicely in his age and having fought alot of different opposition..
I feel that oscars key to winning is his all round smarts and skill...
He still has the power.. He's certainly not slow.. And whats more floyd may never have faced as good a boxer as in oscar.. Oscar is plenty capable of utilising the ring cutting people off.. setting traps , throwing one punch so that he can land another.. That might be his ticket to glory..

Otherwise.. say floyd doesn't retire he has a few options win or loose, Im sure theres still alot of people who want to fight him..

Ricky hatton..
Probably to be held at welterweight if atall..Ricky has said the only fight he is willing to fight at welter, is floyd. no problem there. Ricky although people dont give him credit for..Is an incredibly smart boxer..
His thing is slipping, body punching, outlasting and outhustling his opponents..His punches are incredibly violent snappy punches..
He has mentioned that he fight's smart..Maybe alot of you have seen this on espn..
But he mentions..What i want to do is slip jabs move side to side and make my way to the inside..
Once there he is safe.. he slips a jab, steps left.. Throws a left hook to the body then will finish on a jab and snap the opponents neck back to give him time to either set up some more punches or give him room to step back out again... Correct me once again if im wrong..But i beleive he is either two or three time ABA champion at which weight i am unsure..But for those who dont know of the ABA's they are the british equivelent of winning the golden gloves.

Perhaps Winky? Light middle/middle? ..Power..Not a problem, floyds chin is good, and winky isnt a devestating puncher
Although floyd doesnt whip it out much he can be effective punching to the body.. Might be useful against someone with such a great defense..
Probably the two greatest defensive fighters in the world in the ring together if they fought.
Winky has huge arms and a great paced style.. Floyd rolls the shoulder is fast elusive and can go 24 rounds if he had to... I wouldnt call it.. But if winky was to win.. He'd have to use that defense adn that jab and keep floyd near the ropes to just sneakily steal rounds..

Personally..And no offense to Margarito's skills.. Although he most likely can..
He has'nt earnt his shot and should be worrying about mr williams.. A very good fight to see..
But personally i think floyd wins ud against tony..

My personal opinion on how to beat mayweather..

Who has looked best against mayweather ...although almost all if they have.. Its has only been for brief periods...
I think.. first off, Zab looked good.. In fact boxed with mayweather mixed it up from time to time but did box and did look good..
Can't be too certain on whether that was genuinely zab showing that he could keep up with mayweather's boxing skills..Due to the well known fact... and the statement from floyd, that..Zab is a 'Front Runner'
In pretty much floyd's words..It means zab is good for about the first six rounds .. Then he gas out..
Which is true ..We saw it with baldomir..

Jose Louis Castillo...
Looked good..He won alot will say..Well thats not the arguement..
Jose looked better then good he looked great in alot of rounds..Took it too the ropes, Floyd couldnt capitalize with his awesome defence ..no rushing, just kept it tight, picked his shots well.. got em through ..
Didnt just chase when Floyd moved..He cut off the ring also..

Finally yes..Jesus Chavez..
For example..Keeping it short and sweet..First three rounds..
Lederman says 1 + 2 jesus, 3 for floyd..
Jim says did i hear you right..Led says yes... Ok..
To me it looked like floyd barely got hit.. Picked his shots well and blasted Jesus quite nicely and was saving his shots etc..
But that is one of the keys.. He may or may not have won the rounds..But he was busy..And in some opinions he won not by landing with a high percentage but by throwing at one...
He ran to floyd so that the rounds didnt start in the middle of the ring he looked like and very likely was..A wreck of nerves..You could tell.. He was stiff ,nervous, thowing inacurately..
But he kept him on the ropes, offense was acting as defense..And if you got a good enough chin like he had for a while..You take the odd sharp precise shot..
But at the end of the round theres arguement..Cos although you looked horrible, no style, but were all so busy..Some will say you stole the round..And floyd doesnt know..Cos all he knows is he picked you off from time to time, you looked horrible and barely landed but you were busy and thats what has scored...
Also..Notice floyd goes to the ropes..Early on he picks of jesus and moves away..
By around the 5th..He stops this..Becuase to him ..You look so bad that in his eyes he cant loose..
And he stops running and just stands and picks you off time to time..
You remain busy..Sneak in score the points and bobs your uncle... ;D

I also would like to mention that i believe yes Floyd's struggle with appreciation and respect is more then likely due tis his behaviour and attitude towards himself.
But lets be honest..He is no lottery winner who's money went to his head..
The man is born to be great, A supreme fighter with possibly unparalleled capability..
But does'nt he just know it, Everybody loves the humble guy.. Ricky hatton and oscar de la hoya for instance..
But Floyd is great.. and is capable of bieng the greatest.. Jus like many were..
Some say that when you are this great and this talented you can only be defeated by yourself...
Another felix trinidad reference of which i come out with plenty as most know.. That comment was made by larry merchant about tito trinidad.

And although Floyd has not defeated his self.. He himself has put himself in the position for people to hate on him, you have to love or hate him.. But you cannot disappreciate him.
He has claimed on legendary status of bieng as great as sugar ray robinson, Muhammad ali and people dont like that..
I certainly wasnt around but there was certainly another pretty boy called cassius who was once undefeated and Was saying he was the greatest. Im not sure whether he was ever hated on in quite the same way... Perhaps Floyd should start writing ingenuis limmericks to his oponents like ali did :P ;)

But im sure ali had his fair share of hater's and look where he is now..

For having the balls and taking the time to type up your views and opinions on a fighter most people, in fact about 80% of the people don't really step out and admit to hating on a specific fighter.

IMO, on the ODLH fight it's simple PBF WILL HAVE TO win by decision cause theres NO WAY! PBF will KO or TKO, ODLH.
PBF will probably injure his hand if he lands a punch on ODLH....

Mayweather does exactly what a boxer should do. Make each fight the easiest for him and try to take least punishment as possible.

But in boxing it seems you have to be imperfect to be appreciated in boxing.

Yes. Mayweather is to good to be true. And people will realize that when he retires. As for who can beat Mayweather right now? Floyd Mayweather. That's it. Not Miguel Cotto. Not Ricky Hatton (laughable). Not Antonio Margarito (even more laughable). Not Oscar Del La Hoya. No one. He's in his prime right now. The only way he loses is if he beats himself. Which sadly for his opponents (and haters) ain't happening. Mayweather stays in shape and takes excellent care of himself. Right now. Mayweather is unbeatable.

Wow Tito, You have a lot to say....Hmm maybe to much. But yea, this is a forum. I personally like Floyd, I think he is the perfect example of a well conditioned and prepared athlete, I can't wait for him to fuk Oscar up. :coolclick:

If you think About it..Comparision..Roy jones- Floyd
Roy was loved when he was number one.. but he held his hands mega low got rushed from time to time and depending on how you rate the divisions..Didnt face the competition that floyd has..
Even though im a huge roy jj fan... Both have been questioned and/or criticised for theyr competition..
Probably both unjustly..
It'l always hapen though.. When they are so good.. theres always someone to hate on them and pick on a fighter that is virtually unbeatable!!
But fair play look at the resume..Floyd has faced em.. alot of named and big named fighters and still people say they were picked..But they were in demand before they got beat...
A shame perhaps..But im sure floyd does'nt mind ..somethin gota spur him on..

I think Oscar has the ability to beat Floyd VD....ODH always comes in for the win and he's not going to sit back and take it from PBF and not give him fits.

Trinidad, Wright, Forrest, Mayorga, Mosley, Cotto, Tszyu, Casamayor all at some point in their careers could have given Floyd a hard fight
