Issues with the Rocky series
OK in my issues with the Rocky series are:
#1 he was a southpaw slugger
#2 he was a righty who could box a little better
#3 he was a slugger again and then a super slick defensive fighter
#4 he was back to being a slugger
#5 slugger again
If he whipped Mr. T's ass so quick and didn't recieve any damager, wouldn't permenantly switching to a slick boxing style prolong his career even longer??? I know it would cause him to not have brain damage in #5.
In #6 he's fighting AGAIN....after having brain damage
also in #6 he's considered the greatest champ but he had 20 fucking losses before he ever had a title fight much less won a title.
And Rocky's last fights vs Drago and Dixon have been exhibitions so in considering his place in boxing history you must conceed that a few of his bigger fights haven't even been real matches.
I know it's just a movie but Sly needs to get his shit straight
Re: Issues with the Rocky series
LOL I wondered the same thing about the brain damage....I guess your supposed to get so wrapped up in the story line that you forget...Or like Tommy Morrision he had false positive brain damage?.....
I remember in 3 when he was having career flashbacks and he was getting pummeled by Clubber in the flashback...He was wearing the red white and blue trunks from the apollo fight...except apollo had not given them to him yet?....

I read that that was going to be the case in Rocky Balboa. Presumably they thought that was far fetched and best just to ignore the issue ;D
Lyle Im sure Drago was an exibition only for Apollo, Rocky fought him in a non title fight.

Thanks for clearing that up but I thought being a commie as Drago was he couldn't fight for money??? Hence guys like Savon and Stevenson never went pro
I also wonder what happened to Ivan Drago and Clubber Lang I mean losing to Rocky can't be that bad....Clubber also whipped his ass in the first fight....why no rubber match?
Also where does Tommy Gunn fall in the history of the sport, he was supposed to be Rocky Jr.....and what the hell has Mason Dixon done to deserve such honor as greatest of all-time??? Could he beat Apollo Creed??? Lang or Drago?

I was a little puzzled at that myself. When Rocky got home after fighting Drago he immediately retired, so when he started training Tommy Gunn everybody was saying the division had paper champions and Gunn was not fighting anybody, it was strange how Drago fell off the face of the earth.

Well creed would out point Dixon...His piston jab would be the factor...
IMO Dixon would outbox the Russian as long as he did not get caught....Lang would just destroy Dixon...To strong to fast!!!
Dixon is not an all time great but one of the best of this era....
Gunn fights here and there...but since getting in trouble after fighting in the street they took his title away...He gained about 75lbs during his suspension and for some reason or another can't get back into shape....
Spider Rico worked with him for a while but Gunn didn't want to listen and he and Rico did not see eye to eye on a lot of things so that ended that...
Re: Issues with the Rocky series
i have two issues one in rocky 2 his eye is so bad that he almost retired this is not mentioned in any of the other rockys plus what about brain damamge from rocky 5 he would of been dead amount of punshiment he took off tommy morrison and dixon and yea i agree with lyle why didnt he turn into boxer after 2nd clubber lang fight would of been easier but maybe lyle he didnt want to turn into boxer vs drago because he see how easily he destroyed creed who was good defensive boxer himself maybe he thought that tactic wouldnt work
Re: Issues with the Rocky series
Bravo ICB, I totally forgot about the eye, CC
Yeah Creed just got backed into a corner vs Drago he didn't "Hook out" as he taught Rocky to do in #3....a boxer could beat Drago, besides Rocky had the better chin.
Also he's 30 years old in #1 which makes him 60+ in #6

Re: Issues with the Rocky series
Stop analyzing the Rocky series like its real you nerds! ;D
And for the record, prime Apollo Creed whips em all.
Re: Issues with the Rocky series
You notice Rocky took on "The German champion" in one of his ten title defences. He was clearly ducking the British heavyweight champion at the time. Think it might have been Danny Williams.

floyd mayweather jr. is the modern days answer to apollo creed (except pbf is a welterweight and would never lose to rocky balboa, too many losses on his record ;))
