CutMeMick's great work on the awards thread got me thinking about 2007 and who will be the big star of the year.
Please post one fighter who you think will dominate in 07 and one fighter who will emerge as a force on the world stage.
Thanks.

im gonna go with paul williams and edison miranda both making huge noise in 07
Sam Peter - Beats Toney in a close decision and then proceeds to blow Maskaev out of the water. After that he fights some ordinary challenger like Lamon Brewster or a second rate champion like Briggs or Valuev and blows then out to. If he is away from a real good boxer who can establish distance, he's good. Basically...unless he fights Wlad he is fine.
Runner up is Chad Dawson. I flip flop on this Adamek fight every other second but I think he wins in a potential FOTY, and goes on to beat someone of the likes of Julio Gonzalez in another really good fight. He's been groomed for 2007 to be his year and I don't think he disappoints.
REMEMBER the question was Dominate and emerge on the WORLD stage!
I think one fighter will dominate the Imagination of the public and the spotlight of the huge "casual" boxing fan. If the Rocky 49-0 record is challenged that and the controversy around the legitamacy of Valuev's record alone will be the biggest headline and news in boxing in a long time. If its done by a guy thats 7' 3" tall 365 lbs THAT will generate interest both pro and con. The fact that it's a european spreads the interest level. VALUEV will dominate the news. And grab a portion of sports and general news and media attention usually reserved for non-boxing sports. It will happen because he is a SPECTACLE beyond normal boxings boundries. Hopefully now that there is enough money and interest he will use his pride to overcome his feelings of not wanting to be a giant. I hope he dedicates himself to learn how to box so that boxing fans can respect him for that and not just ridicule him as a freak.
Check out the video! Get an idea of what's to come!
WWE style promotion comes to boxing! Why is it the WWE bullsh1t has dominate sports entertainment? Boxing has languished and faltered! MMA is growing in leaps and bounds! THIS is what Boxing needs!
Id like to see the guy develop into a REAL boxer and fighting monster machine and go 100 and 0!

forgive the stupid music once the fight highlites start. just turn the sound off
Thanks guys CC's to you all.
I think Mikkel Kessler will have a big year. He wont get his fight with Calzaghe but he will continue to fight the best available and dominate super middle before becoming a two division champ (175) late in the year.
I dont want to read too much into Cotto's win over Quintana but he did look very strong and will certainly take some stopping this year.
Forgot about Miranda well done frozensolid ;)
CC's amat and landmine950 ;D
IMO, Kessler is there to beat. If Calzaghe gets his shit together and fights him, he will win.
Valuev....we've gone over this before so I'm not going to bother.
I wanted to say Williams, because I think he beats Margarito. But who after that? He stays away from Floyd for a bit. Possibly Mosley? Doubt it. Cotto? No way would Arum let that happen. Clottey? That would be a war. I would LOVE to see that. CC Memph and FS.

i say cotto because hes been somewhat chinny in the past, and the punisher can flat out bang with the best of them
cc's to everybody on the thread............... excellent topic
Cotto has improved A LOT though. He's basically a polished product while Williams is still raw. I would have to go back a bit to check both of them but I couldn't make a prediction right now. And if Williams does beat Margarito then no way does Arum put him in with his other 147 lb moneymaker. But Cotto is good. And I've been severely down on Cotto before. But his in and out game has improved, he's shortened up and he's really become a complete fighter. Again would have to look at the tapes but Cotto isn't just a fun guy to watch anymore, he's a legit contender.
Valuev is not going to dominate the news.....just look who he's fighting, who is dumb enough to buy that bullshit???
The boxers set for a breakout year are.......
Eddie Chambers
He's a young, undefeated, AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT....and he has had some good fights....he doesn't have KO power though
Chazz Witherspoon
He's a young, undefeated, AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT with KO power and a household name....WITHERSPOON his Uncle wasn't super but he was pretty good and this division will take that anyday of the week
I would say Calvin Brock but there is no telling how he reacts to his KO loss to Wladimir

and youre absolutely right............ no way does arum put cotto in the ring with williams, he'll just wait for the inevitable jump in weight class by williams instead

Chagaev is 230, Even Ruiz is 238! same for Maskaev and Rahman. Joe Mesi was 239 in june 2006! Peter fought all 2004 and 2005 at under 250 and came to 256-7 for 2007. I think some of the others are as strong and maybe Mask and rachman are stronger. And I think you would agree that they are probably ALL better boxers. I dont see the guy making a big splash anywhere except the swimming pool in Las Vegas.
Lorenzo Parra will be big in 2007.
As for youngsters who'll step up? Allan Green. He'll have fools breaking there ankles trying to jump back on the band wagon.
