I paraphrased the title but you get the message! He says it is his last fight and it's for pride,so he could be put in 1 last great performance? Call it what you want,a fight with 2 over rated guys,a fight with guys who have lost their big fights etc etc whatever,BUT, there have not been as many fights that are exciting as this,not for me anyway! This is going to be a war!!

I'm not a fan of Vargas at all, and I don't think he was that great a fighter in the first place. Mayorga comes across as more of a genuine badass than Vargas so I do like him more and he has wins over 6 heads,Forrest,good wins so I think I prefer him although I'm not really a fan of either.

I want Mayorga to win but if the fight is at the catch weight,163 I think it was,Vargas will win. Mayorga does not carry his power well and Vargas is more technically refined,although Vargas looked SHOT AS HELL against Mosley and Mayorga is nowhere as shot! I think the power deficit and the fact Mayorga gasses soooo early in fights will make it hard for him to win. Vargas points.

i think Vargas HAD potential to be GOOD. he just got in the ring with Tito way too early in his career and TITO ruined his career literally. we all know Vargas has not been the same ever since.

Mayorga is more entertainment than being a good technical fighter he has his own sloppy all out style which is easy on the eyes but its only effective if he either intimidates his opponents or catches them with his wildy haymaker style. a good technical fighter whos not scared will school mayorga.

the catch weight will be a HUGE factor cuz all of Vargas career hes been notorious to STARVE himself to death just to make weight.

Vargas has tremendous heart and I have a ton of respect for him, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is a bad decision he's making.
Everyone keeps saying this is going to be a war, but I don't think Vargas still has it in him physically to get in another war. He's suffered brutal knockouts and he's sustained numerous injuries over the years that have hastened his fall from the top level of the sport. He doesn't have a war in him. It doesn't matter how badly he had to struggle to make weight, the extra 6-8 pounds isn't going to give him a new chin, it's not going to heal the numerous back injuries, and it's not going to reverse that last 6 years starting with the Trinidad fight.
And Mayorga is a fighter who forces you to take his punch and forces you into a war. This is a bad choice of opponents for Vargas. If he wants to go out with a victory, that's fine, he's earned that right. But he should be handpicking an opponent that can't seriously hurt him. Mayorga can.

I can appreciate what your saying, however I think its a good match-up.. I really do.. Mayorga has enough chinks in his armor, where Vargas will have his opportunities ! . good to see a guy take on tough opposition.. they too many fighters fighting hand picked opponents there days.. this is kind of refreshing !

Mosley KO'd Vargas. Mosley had never KO'd anyone at 154 before. Mayorga KO's guys on a regular basis (save for Trinidad and DLH of late). Vargas is too stationary to beat Mayorga. Mayorga by EARLY KO.

Vargas is an idiot. He's not prideful, he's a little kid. He still belittles his opponent and doesn't accept defeat well at all. At least Mayorga could accept defeat like a man and go up to Oscar and say "you won, you hurt me, congrats." Yeah, Mayorga talked a lot of shit, but at least when he lost he could accept it. When Vargas lost to Oscar he ran from the ring like there was a bomb underneath it. You'd think that with all the losing he's done in his career that he'd be more graceful about it. He's always blaming weight, the ref, and everybody but himself. Once again we hear Vargas talking ish again and belittling his opponent. He better not come to the ring thinking that he can show up like he did against Mosley and win, that Vargas that showed up would have been knocked by a lot of boxers. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Mayorga cleans his clock. There's a fine line between pride and stupidity, I don't think Vargas has figured that out yet.

I really think Vargas is going to become a vegetable, his back is in terrible condition and he has taken to much punishment in the ring, Mayorga has taken his lumps in the ring also but he has a little more gas left in his tank than Vargas. Mayorga has about a quarter tank but Vargas is on Emptey.

I hope Vargas does pull it off in a big way...I was always a fan of the guy...He is actually a decent guy to talk to and very humble. He appreciates everything boxing has brought him and his family....Of course he acts different in front of the crowds and for the press but if you ever get the chance to meet him I am sure you would agree.....IMO Vargas wasbrought along the wrong way and thrown in with the sharks while he was still a guppy....He did a damn good job concidering but to many big time fights before he was ready ruined him...I hope he goes out on a high note...Not that I am a huge fan or anything but you have to admit he leaves it in the ring every time win or lose...He is a champion and deserves to go out like one

I am not a fan, but Vargas do come to fight. gotta love that about him.

If this fight comes off, which I pray it does, then Mayorga will have the last laugh. Vargas don't wanna get in an insult match with Mayorga, and he damn sure don't wanna get into a brawl with Mayorga. He'll lose at both.
