Extremely Important Article - A Definite Must Read

This is important because now all those people that don't see how guys like PBF are hurting the game cause all they care about is the money and not who the best is. There are too many to name but seriously, this not even a gladiator sport anymore. These cowards are killing the sport we all love and while they are walking away rich, all we're gonna have to talk about is MMA pretty soon.

F*ck HBO. We got each other. Where there is a boxing match, we'll be there to watch it. I'm not the usual boxing fan, I know of little to none boxing fans who are around me, especially that are my age. But I'm no easily defined demographic, and I don't go with the crowd. I love boxing because I just do and I don't just go with the flow of the crowd like many do. Every empire falls, and I'm proud to stick to my game as long as I can. :army:

Make no mistake about it, I love boxing, but the alphabet organizations, promoters and the fighters themselves are ruining the sport. I like watching MMA and the best thing about it is that the top fighters seem to fight one another without the politics and bs that goes on in boxing.

I won't abandon boxing for anything but I just hate to see dudes hurting the game like that. You hurt the boxing game, you hurt me.

By the way, just to note, with Pride and UFC being different "promotional banners" that's an entirely false belief that is common among MMA fans.

If everybody, or you, watched the Super-Lightweight Division, all that would be bogus. Marquez, Pacquiao, Morales, Barrera, despite the pains you just mentioned, have pretty much already made a Silver Age of Featherweights-to-Super Lightweights.
-Also, with Floyd and Oscar focusing on each other, let us not forget the rest.
Having Castillo, Hatton, Margarito, Cotto, Cintron, Williams, Mosley, Callazo, and more-- all around each other's respective divisions... something VERY interesting is going to happen. :D Now, if HBO wants to limit the open door for this brewing pre-big-bang waiting to happen and make room for dates for UFC now, then that's a slap in the face to boxing. HBO already pays attention to their contracted fighters by showcasing their "tuneups" where Jermain and Winky are overwhelming favorites, and hype bouts like Oscar vs Floyd, and now midnight UFC? By the way HBO "does" want a Castillo Hatton fight. So that's good news, we need more fights like these, but with less dates open, we'll see less diehard fights and more contracted fighters fights. Also, it's a misconception that HBO can't afford a super-tournament among a boiling division. If Time Warner's HBO can give a single fighter a guaranteed over 8 million mark even in the face of sliding ppv numbers, Time Warner can certainly afford "just a" $500,000 dream matchup of young and hungry talented fighters whom diehard fans can name faster than a Jones Jr. combination.
HBO already sucked the life out of Showtime's shows by intentionally putting matchups on already scheduled Showtime dates and giving out Showtime results to unexpected fans. This is known because remember Showtime's "The 1st Month's Saturday fight nights" then suddenly HBO had showings that night also? And Winky fights on a Cotto night simultanously, etc. Actions like that don't help the Boxing Sport. I'm not saying Showtime is an entirely innocent victim here, but it's obvious HBO beat them badly in the boxing market intentionally. After HBO helped weaken Showtime, Showtime goes to MMA, then HBO follows suit?
HBO hurt boxing, if all this is true.
And with Lampley gone!

... 07 looking sad. :( ... :'(
--BUT I DO see TONS of fights that can and will be Made and negotiated though.
Re: Extremely Important Article - A Definite Must Read
That's the good thing. HBO now has to put on good shows and Show has already been doing it so now these primadonna guys that don't wanna fight tough fights can try to get a Friday date on ESPN.
Re: Extremely Important Article - A Definite Must Read
Who hasn't PBF faced? Hatton? Margaritto? Since when did they compare to Oscar or Corrales or Castillo? I think Hatton is a great fighter, but PBF would get almost no recognition by the average fan in america for fighting him.

I don't see HBO changing it's course. You'll still see primadonna guys taking the easy route for millions. The lesser known hungry fighters and the fans suffer. But it should have been a good thing in that HBO should have realized that stars don't sell... but "BOXING DOES." Instead HBO figures MMA will sell, when it could have changed it's market strategy to "good fights" instead of "stars." I love stars, but Boxing is my true love. Erik Morales lost BIG, I'm going to miss him, but I'm not going to leave boxing because he retired.
HBO should have learned, who' gives a shyte about stars in easy fights where they smile at the camera after their easy expected victory? If anything it creates a jealousy with each fight, where boxers become spoiled brats with Ferraris for toys. While the viewers see yet another easy victory smile.
It's no wonder these athletes feel indestructible at times, in that nothing can touch them inside their mansion, while they take on easy mandatory and get paid a contracted amount because HBO believes in force-feeding stars on the tube.

When he gained his p4p so-called status, it was right after beating Gatti and before that I believe it was Bruseles and then Mitchell. I mean c'mon. He talks about legacy but wants to retire with all the great that are there to be made. Oscar is not the same guy either so that to me is not taht big a deal. Primadonnas are bad for boxing, PERIOD!!!
Re: Extremely Important Article - A Definite Must Read
STOP TALKING ABOUT FLOYD MAYWEATHER!
THIS ISN'T ABOUT HIM! He's just a man. This is about BOXING. Which has been here before us and will after we are all dead!
What I AM talking about is Boxing in general. Not PBF. But Boxing. And how HBO set stage for a market strategy that is flawed, and only a very very VERY VERY small percentage of boxers benefit.
Re: Extremely Important Article - A Definite Must Read
And that HBO muscled everybody out the the competition for top spot of the coveted Boxing Network.
Then tarnishes it while it has it's biggest grasp on the sport.

He's the first that comes to mind though cause he's supposed to be p4p # 1. You gotta rep when you're getting that many props.

But I do agree in that he's the epitome of a fighter taking advantage of HBO's marketing strategy. HBO does have an ideal of what "boxing should be" and it's not working, it shouldn't realy even be interfering with that stuff, just showing Boxing, not intentionally showcasing fights on a concept of their own. There job is to show fights, and good competitive matches, not show fighters they think are special. Summarizing it, HBO just needs to show good ol' Competitive Boxing.... which is what Boxing Is About.

I gotta give it up to the late Thomas Hauser. :)
That's a brilliant peice he penned.
