There is no right hook.......

I can land a right hook on the bag and I can't see why it wouldnt work in the ring, obviously it doesnt have the range of a left but it definetely has more power.
Ive seen tyson use it a few times and de la hoya use it when he's got someone up against the ropes.
Why is it so frowned upon in training?
what about a right uppercut?
Ive got my first sparring session on tuesday but there are so many things I cant wait to try I'll probably forget about the right hook.
Re: There is no right hook.......
just try to land it in your sparring session. you'll see.

Exactly...
If it is too exist...Its to be thrown textbook on the bag..
If you land anything near to a right hook in sparring..Its either looping or slightly over hand.. Never quite a right hook..
They are near impossible..If not completely impossible to land on a target that moves and hits back...
Im not entirely sure of the whole story of how a right hook is a right hook..But if your not a southpaw.. and you throw what you think is a left hook.. Your either stood toe to toe and have extreme handspeed..
Or its not quite a right hook...
Re: There is no right hook.......
When you've knocked some one out with one it exists... and it wasn't a sloppy right hand or a looping right or an over hand this or that.
Twas a hook... ;)
Forget wether it is similar to a left or what ever... it is a name for 'that' punch... and 'that' punch exists and is a lot different from any of the other rights I throw... ;)
Re: There is no right hook.......
ok what exactly does a looping punch mean? and an over hand punch?
how is a right hook different from a looping right or overhand right?
sorry, lots of questions, lots to learn, ;D
Re: There is no right hook.......
a looping right is what people call either
a) A cross not thrown very straight
or
b) A right hand which is widley thrown and is neither a straight shot, overhand shot or a hook... some weight on it but it's not really a proper shot... just one of the many things HBO has made up... ;)
Re: There is no right hook.......
And an over hand right ..Is either thrown somewhat over the shoulder when in a strait fashion..(BODYWISE)
And for example like bernard hopkins would slip to his left..And throw it less right over his shoulder..But still at a steep angle if thats the right way to explain it... Thats overhand... Its really the look of it..And how its thrown...
Personally..If i throw any right hand that isnt strait..And it lands.. i dont bother naming what it is.. I either move away, to my side, or throw another punch before i get hit ;) :lickish:
Peace

Re: There is no right hook.......
I thrown a many right hook.. example , you find yourself on the inside , you slip the jab and throw a rt hook to the body right uppercut which lift the opponent head up , then you finish off with the left hook to the head.. speed is a factor here.. you can't be slow while doing it, you need to come off fast ! a thing of beauty when done at the right moment ! ;) bam bam bam.. happy days ! O0 watch some vintage . Mike Tyson, Tommy Morrison, David Tua, Chavez.. many others !
