Is Ricky "Hugger" Hatton the new John Ruiz?

No longer the "Hitman" Ricky Hatton showed after a decent 5 round start that he prefers to hug and grope his opponents continually once they start to get all sweaty and the "homo" hormones start flowing.

One punch,step in,hold. A textbook John Ruiz strategy. Make the fight as boring as possible. From round 6 on he committed to a plan of wasting as little time as possible with all that "punching" business and got right down to the serious "man-hugging".

The bit of movement against a plodding Urango who moved slower than an Arctic glacier,was quickly abandoned when it resulted in Ricky getting hit in his "tummy-tum" a few times in round 5. Wisely he moved to the tried and true John Ruiz technique,smothering any possibility his opponent might have of scoring, and any possibility that the fight might remain interesting. At the same time, I feel he may have effectively smothered what interest was building for a Hatton/Castillo match in the future. Castillo certainly did his part as well squeaking out a much booed win over a quick and game, if inexperienced Ngoudjo. The only fighter Who did anything to elevate his status in the public eye even though he suffered a loss, no surprise that he fights out of Canada.

So we need suggestions for Ricky Hattons new "nickname"

You guys are always punks to Hatton, even if he looked good, you'd say, "Hatton always takes easy fights!"

But ANYWAYS... even though I was very disappointed with Hatton's performance tonight,
I'm not "mad" at him, I'm more "sad" :( at the showing on what I think was a great potential.
But Hatton can still change, for the better, although that kind of incidence is rare.

I have to repeat myself, because I find nobody reads the round by round after the fight's finished.

so, I say...
"It's just that the Hatton who beat the living hell outta Carlos Maussa, is no more.

Seriously, Hatton was getting better with each fight.
From his early days, to Ben Tackie, to Kostya, and to Maussa. All world class fighters, with at least Ben being a tough veteran of the sport.

That Hatton would have destroyed this untested but undefeated fighter.

Destroyed in a TKO, KO, or Decision beat down, whatever it be, but this Hatton is VERY different from the one I've followed.

Cares too much about losing and getting hit now.
Collazo really hurt him, I don't think people realize how it feels to get seriously hurt in a fight, you feel helpless and worse.
Unless Hatton comes back from that, which I think that has changed him,
then we'll see Hatton continue his "clinching" and not-as-confident performances happen from now on.

Hatton was always meant to lose, so I won't scream "EXPOSED!" when he finally does,
but this performance was so different than what I have come to expect from him.
I rank him up their with the Cotto's, Pacquiao's, of the next "Reigning Terrors."
So I think VERY highly of him. And when Cotto puts on a white-wash decisive unanimous victory,
he does it with patience and skill. NOT by a one-two clinch, or punch clinch, body clinch.
Even writing and reading that repetative act is boring.

I just have to add that.... it's not that constant hugging is "boring"
((Which it is, and it does not help in getting your name MORE out there for ticket sales and views.))

But that it blatantly shows that Hatton has something "missing" in his game.

To say it directly, "Something is missing that is now filled with clinching."

I've always compared Ricky to Joe Frazier. THAT is why I don't like this fight.

butta the hugging wasn't that bad was it? urango clearly hurt hatton in the tummy at round 6th a few more body shots could of ended hatton.

I don't think hatton should continue to fight at 140, but either way hatton showed no possible way he can beat pbf. plus hatton is either gonna get ktfo at 140 or at 147 his gonna get expose.

140 is taking a toll at hatton its hard to keep on making that weight. and at 147 he had a hard ass time and got scared so he drop back down to 140, I mean he said he performed awfull at 147 because he didn't have enough time to prepare for that weight.butta after that fight he has all the time he needs to prepare to stay at 147, so why other then being afraid would he move back down to 140???

It's about winning guys and that is what the Hitman does.
Urango needed to offer more to make the Champion show more.
I thought Urango was poor compared to the hype, and you can't call Ricky a dodger like Vivian Harris etc. he looks for the big fights and Castillo is going to be a humdinger.

Ricky will fancy Castillo! Casillo looks old and a little worn and Ricky likes making fighters like that work the ring.
Ricky's body full of fry-ups and beer will beat the old guys legs!

Honestly mate, stop exagerratin and try to realise the exceptional circumstances under which this fight was fought.

Hatton was fighting at a much higher level here, after a long period of inactivity, and for once, the other opponent had the bigger punch. Hatton was only a narrow favourite to win.

He knew this, and adapted in order to win the fight, going in, hitting, getting out and avoiding big shots. He did this for the large majority of the fight, despite a sticky patch where he did end up hugging a little. To me, this is a sign that Hatton has come of age, and is an experienced ring veteran who knows how to adapt his style to neutralise and overcome certain fighters, which he did in this case. Also, is Urango realy someone a fighter like Hatton is able to impress against?

What did you expect him to do? Go in and trade all night, just what Urango came for.

I aint even gonna comment specifically on u referrin to John Ruiz, you know that comment is a pile of bollocks.

I don't know what the hell happened there?....From the start he looked good. He was boxing, Moving around ducking punches,,throwing combos,,,Killing him with the body shots and getting in nice upper cuts.....

Then all of a sudden......

He took a round off....I figured just to get his wind back...

But after he was a bit off balance only fought in spurts and in rds 11,12 all he did was hold??....

IMO he took a couple of shots from Urango and wasn't taking any chances on getting caught big...Or he was out of steam...Either way he needs to make some adjustments...soon......

ricky was rired after 9 rounds, billy graham told him to coast home in the fassion he did knowing that urango would try to get hatton into a slugfest which the hitman would probably have fallen for.

hatton nulified everything urango who is a massive 140 guy tryed last night he won 119-109 in probably the biggest points win of his carrer, last year after the collazo fight most haters were saying that hatton can only fight one way and there was no plan b, but last night hatton showed he had very good skill's in the ring and isnt just a brawler.

big shout to matty hatton too, he should be fighting for a british tile this year after his good showing last night.
