More power in punch
I was sparring the other day, my third time sparing, and I just realized later in the spar, that my punches were landing "lightly". I was so focused on throwing fast punches, that I'd throw a 4-5 punch combo, but they'd all be fast and light, not hurting my opponent. I figured that I'd just focus more on thorwing more solid punchs, like I do when I hit the bags or when I hit mits, but I was wondering if you guys had any advice.

Re: More power in punch
Just passing on advice I got when I made a similar post. In my first couple of sparring sessions, I was unable to land a hard punch. It'll come for you though. The best advice I got on here about this topic was to focus on your range. Your punches are landing lightly most likely 1. because your sparring partners are moving as you hit them, therefore taking away some of the impact when you hit them, 2. your range is off, you might be possibly hitting them with the tail end of your punches, 3. just plain old lack of experience. It took me 4 or 5 sessions to land that first booming punch. When it finally does land, god damn is that a good feeling ;D. Now, after about a month of sparring a few times a week, more and more punches are landing for me, and I would assume that you will find the same as time goes on. Good luck man, and let us know when you finally do land that rockin punch ;D.

Re: More power in punch
Just read my reply, and figured I might be able to add a bit. Look for your openings. Watch what your opponent does with his hands after he throws his punches. Is he consistantly dropping a hand when throwing a specific punch? If so, capitalize on the situation. Watch for that specific punch, and slip one in when he drops his hands. Do you have the reach advantage in a specific match up? Again, capitalize on this situation. When he jabs, counter with a 1 2. If you have the reach advantage, you should be able to land 2 good punches to his 1 light punch (if his lands at all). This has to do with what I mentioned before about range. The guy with the shorter reach will be catching you with his punches at the tail end of the punch, while you have proper range and can drive through his head with the follow through on your punches. Hope this helps some man.
