Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
I did a big slam against ALI, A guy who I always liked and thought did amazing things in the ring. (but thats another post)
So to show a flip side here's a guy I never really liked when he was a boxer but now looking back I have to give him a tip of the Hat.
For those of you having a drink as you read this, If you feel a bit of respect for the guy as you read all I'd ask as you take a swig is that you'd raise your glass and say "to Hector "Macho" Camacho"
He was a "runner" stick and move, don't get hit.
not MY style of a figher, but very good at what he did.
I never really paid a lot of attention to him..all hype,no balls I used to say..
BUT!
85 pro fights....78-5-2
did I read that right?? 85 fights??
was 38-0 before his first loss to greg Haugen
fought :
Julio Cesar Chaves
Felix Trinidad
Roberto Duran twice! (2 wins)
Sugar Ray Leonard (win ko 5)
Oscar De La Hoya
Held titles from Super featherweight (130)
to super middle weight (168)
His flashy style and "Its macho time!" entrance brough a flash and sense of excitement to every fight he was in.
Remember the flashy entrances with the big headgear!?
A credit to the sport, very talented , did as much with the god gioven talent he had as maybe any fighter could be expected to do.
Heres the clincher 85 fights......NEVER STOPPED !
(walsh due to headbutt)
5 losses all decisions!
THIS IS ONE TOUGH SLICK SON-OF-A B1TCH!
Did he contribute to boxing?
Did he "pay a price?"
He deserves our respect.
here's a clip of hector today.
I owe him. respect.

Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
I never liked him either. A lot of people forget that he was an all action guy and very heavy handed until the beating Edwin Rosario gave him made him put his guns away.
The beatings he took from Chavez, Trinidad and especially DLH were frightful.
Looks like they caught up with him if that vid is anything to go by.
Very sad - he stayed in the game far too long.
Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
Wow great post I did fealt the same but after a couple of years back by the time he faced ODLH I did gave him his credit because the way that he acted is just a show ($)
So coolclick on me great thread
Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
Still rockin' the 'Superman/Michael Jackson' curl I see. ;D
Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
He beat washed up champions and then when he was washed up the tables turned and he was beat. He could have been great but he is a few levels below great imo.
Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
I always liked and respected Hector "MACHO" Camacho, I even thought he won both Haugen fights. Blinding fast at 130Ibs.
Re: Tribute to a fighter I never liked.
He's a clown. I saw him walking through Harlem NY one day so since I respect all fighters I said whats up and he tried to act tough. When I confronted him, he tried to act like he was trying to get at me but he waited til his bodyguard or whoever the guy was restrained him. I was never a fan of the guy but I always respected him up until that point. Pro boxers should have at least a little appreciation for the fans. Would have been nice if I would have gotten a chance to fight him though. Even if he would have whooped my a**, at least I would have had a more interesting story. ;D
