Mouthpiece help y'alls jaw?

Does a mouthpiece help any of your jaws? To me it does, like when I get smacked in the jaw (on VERY few occasions :D) and I am clenching the mouthpiece tight, it doesn't seem like it hurts at all, but when I don't have a piece in and get hit, it hurtls like hell. Anyone else on this subject?
