Greatest Ref in History is Undoubtedly Mitch Halpern
Take a look at this vid, the 12th round of DLH-Quartey, and tell me how many other refs would have let the fight continue. Great job that rarely gets noticed. Halpern always let fighters fight it out, shame he committed suicide.

Halpern was a good ref who was just starting to make a name as one of the top guys in the business when he commited suicide....I met him a few times at fight cards and he was always a class act both in and out of the ring.....There are a lot of other great refs though....Merchante ( not sure if I spelled that right),,Cortez,,Smoger,,Lane... all guy who I would want to ref a championship fight

He was kidnapped and forced to watch 15 straight hours of Ricky Hatton and John Ruiz fights, so he did what any sensible human would do under such inhumane conditions, he took his own life.

He commited suicide over some family problems they say.....I don't really think it's possible to know exactly why anyone commits suicide

:lolololol:
That would certainly do it. I know I watched the John Ruiz - Fres Oquendo fight and had to be talked off a ledge.
Re: Greatest Ref in History is Undoubtedly Mitch Halpern
My favourite ref is Tony Weeks.

Re: Greatest Ref in History is Undoubtedly Mitch Halpern
Halpern was decisive, fair and always seemed to make the right calls in the ring. It's just a tragedy that he made the wrong one out of the ring. It was really sad to hear
the news of his passing. Boxing lost a great referee in him. May God grant him the peace in death that he was unable to find when he was among us.
Rest in peace, Mitch.
