Finally relaxed...
Every night that I get done working out... I have one of the guys in the gym hit me in the face for about a minute... nothing to really hurt me... well since my nose is still bruised that stings a might...
But anyway... I was still flinching. I wasn't turning my head away but if the person would feignt and then stop before hitting me I would shut my eyes every time. Last night halfway through this exercise... something happened.
There was a defining moment when I just relaxed. It was so defined that I even stopped the guy and said... "HEY... I just realized something I'm relaxed"...
After that... no flinching, I mean absolutly none...
To make it even more rewarding I went on to spar one of the fastest guys in the gym last night and I got a jab in on him... a solid jab. That has never happened before... what made last night different... I was relaxed and I was having fun... it was fun being in the ring trying to figure out how to get inside of this quick guys jab and defense...
Am I completely cured... I doubt it... but it's a nice start!

Re: Finally relaxed...
great job. next up, have them hit you with pipes to help harden your skull and jaw. You know... wolfe's law.

Re: Finally relaxed...
Awesome to hear...CC.
I think one of the worst things you can do while fighting is think. No rational thinking will lead you to believe that getting hit in the face is a good idea, and that you shouldn't get away from it. I used to have that problem, but now when I fight, I kinda zone out. I don't feel the pain, I don't look for anything, I just kinda do it. I got a million times better the day it happened.

Re: Finally relaxed...
Thanks... and Von... no way in heck am I willing going to let anyone hit me with a lead pipe!
It will be interesting to see how relaxed I really will be tonight. Friday nights are heavy sparring nights at our club. I already know I will be going up against one of the pro fighters there tonight. For the record, they will work down to my level... but don't think for an instance that they won't take every opportunity to pop me with a good hard right cross if I let my guard down to much...
Just have to think happy thougths until then so I don't tense up before I even get there... lol...
I do love it though... always learn something new from Friday nights...
Heavy D... thanks for the CC! Hopefully sometime soon the rest will come together and click where I don't have to think about what I want to throw and it just comes naturally. I don't think it will be long...

Re: Finally relaxed...
Hitmandonny...
My problem was that I was flinching... everyone and everything that I read said the only way to overcome this was to get hit enough where you no longer care... and for a fact it has worked for me...
Then again I am sparring lightly on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays and sparring heavy on Friday's so that is probably helping as well. By lightly I mean we are probably only going at each other 75% and as soon as someone gets a good hit in on the sparring partner we stop and talk about why the hit scored and what we could have done differently to correct the deficiency...
Friday nights... are basically the real deal except... if we see that someone has been wobbled, we step back off for a second and we don't close in for the kill...
And yes... I have an addiction!
