Peter should take the step aside offer.
I really don't understand why Peter doesn't take the step aside offer. He's not gonna make 2.5 million for fighting Masakev and they are guaranteeing him a shot at the winner with a minimum of 3 Million for a fight with the winner of Klitschko/Masakev. He basically getting a guaranteed 6 Million dollars to sit around for his title shot. If he presses this issue and sues the WBC, Klitschko, and Masakev, the WBC will definitely not allow him to fight for a belt and he will be in court instead of boxing. Suing an alphabet is not good, and technically in the WBC rules, Vitali should get to get his shot. It's fucked up but it's in the rules so a court battle could take forever. I'm sure Peter is thinking that if he beats Masakev then he'll get the lionshare for a mega match with Vitali which could be a lot more than 6 million dollars, but he won't make any money if he's in court.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
I suppose the only reason that Peter is not taking the step aside money is that he reckons he's got some momentum going, and that he doesn't want to lose that. However, if he knocks one or two guys out while Vitali and Maskaev fight, I reckon he'll still be on a roll and might even be more confident.
Also, it might be spurred by that little voice in the back of his head saying that the best chance he ever has of becoming champ is to fight against Maskaev. Perhaps it aint all about the money.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
This is the latest statement from Peter's team.

I've got a feeling he will win any legal argument. He may not get the fight but he will get more cash.

yeah...he has a shot against Maskaev....that shot disappears when it comes to Vitali....take the money....fight the fight.....
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
Peter has the moral highground and respect to him. Boxing seldom has a moral highground.
Peter should beat Maskaev and then knock out Vitali. He has the tools.

I agree with you that Peter has the tools, but I think he may have bought into the hype around Vitali that he is the best since Lennox Lewis, and that he is a little scared of him. Otherwise I think he'd take the money.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
The thing is that Peter will have to fight Vitali at some point, so the only reason that he's not taking this money now is because he wants to be champ instead of challenger going into negotiations with Vitali because he would get a bigger cut of the pie as champ. But seriously, right now, he's basically turning down a guaranteed 6 Million dollars and a title shot. Does he think he's getting Lennox money for a Vitali fight? Please Peter just take the offer and fight Vitali later. Look at what happened to Travis Simms, he sued the WBA for some reason and they removed him as champion and he's barely getting back to where he was after two years (even though some of it was caused by injury). I'd hate for Peter to get put on the shelf for that long.

We dont know the details but morally Peter is standing his ground as he should. Vitali is 35 and creaking at the joints, I dont think Sam Peter really fears him. Peter is getting better and better. Vitali wants to win the belt and creep away. This is my suspicion and that is why Peter wont let it stand.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
35 is not old for a HW...a featherweight yes ....but HW no......so I don't know how much creaking Vitali is doing....

But we are talking a long layoff after a number of long delays against Rahman.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
I dont think there is any reason for Peter to take step aside money. The only way you are remembered in boxing is to have won a belt. Nobody remembers anything else, and the belt wont even guarentee that you will be remembered. But without one you can forget it. Peter's best chance is Maskaev, his chances diminish extremely against VKlit.

VKlit is an old 35 thou, he spent several years in kickboxing before boxing. I would think that kickboxing would be harder on the overall body than boxing.
Re: Peter should take the step aside offer.
I think Vitali is the one who should be scared of Peter. And this is why he wants to fight Maskaev. Against Maskaev he can win.

I get the mental image of the trainer from Rocky films standing over Klitchko's shoulder as they watch a video of Peter, saying "No way. You're not going in against that guy. There is no way you can win."
Cue training montage. Oh I wish I had my own training montage :p.

I disagree completely. Peter has come on tremendously and is at the stage now where his skills can actually play alongside his punching power...Vitali would have a much harder time than against Maskaev. Its common sense to make these conclusions...

then why would Team Duva/King counter offer?
Moral highground means Not taking the offer no matter what...then why counter offer and ask for more?
