Why hasn't De La Hoya been stripped?

Ok I've been wandering how come Oscar De La Hoya has been allowed to keep his light middleweight title when he hasn't made a single defense in almost a year.

How come the IBF didn't bust his ass for not making a mandatory?

They make every single other fighter agree to a meaningless mandatory defense but the Golden Boy has somehow been granted special privilege to not have to risk his belt before his megafight with Floyd.

Now I know all of you will say thats great, that he shouldn't have to face the likes of Grady Brewer or K9 Bundrage and I agree but we all know that common sense means nothing to the governing bodies!

The ONLY reason he hasn't been even asked if he would like to fight a mandatory or even make a defense is because he's a promoter and is in kahoots with all of the slugs who run boxing.

It's just another reason why I want him to get knocked our in May!

He was given one year to make a defense, for some reason (cash money) Mayweather is considered his mandatory.
the day that they fight will make 364 days, thus fulfilling his contract.

So to answer all of your questions about mandatories the default answer is cash.

The W.B.C want to be involved in the Mayweather v De La Hoya fight its good for the title to have either of these as champ but by rights yes Oscar perhaps should be stripped :)

How did they decide Mayweather was his mandatory, he's never even fought at 154 ? ???

If they did indeed set Floyd as the mandatory that is even more dubious!
I thought the mandatory defense was supposed to be the guy rated the number 1 contender?

Smacks of dodgy dealings and backstabbings to me!

My bad guys I was thinking he was IBF champ.

Actually it makes perfect sense now I know he's WBC champ!

They probably said to him when he won the belt, 'Take as long as you want,we won't hassle you,' 'Actually we have just invented a new Emiritus Belt for our favourite champs so if you want feel free to retire for a while.
Relax, put your feet up, get out your pipe and slippers and if/when you want to return we'll announce you as emeritus champion and we'll strip the other guy whoever he may be!'.

I thought the WBC's logic was that since they are both Current WBC champs, it is as good as a mandatory to them. (And he has a year)

This is the easiest question I have seen in a while.

1) He is Oscar De La Hoya, and every alphabelt organization is drooling and stomping all over each other to get one of their belts around his waist.

2) He is fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. the second person the organizations are drooling and stomping all over each other and themselves to get one of their belts around his waist.

Plain and simple, they all want to be attached to either fighter in one way or another.

Mayweather has held the green and gold in all four of his weight classes, he's the WBC's poster boy. I think's it's only correct and common sense on the part of the WBC that they let Oscar defend against Mayweather, I think there's no current mandatory installed at 154 by the WBC so it's a voluntary defence. WBC seem to have got this one right, it's a shame such common sense isn't involved in every title fight. They shouldn't have all these friggin belts, if every fan did something about it I.E a boycott then they'd have no choice but to change it. Radical I know but it would work for sure, it's our money.
