Re: What's floyd excuse?...
No dude i cant agree with that statement...
Roy was never to travel oversea's why should he have?..
He was the big name..He was in america and america is where the money is at..
Joe calzaghe wasnt even a big name and there was no demand for that fight when roy was at middlweight and supermiddleweight..
Not sure about eubank but benn was to fight roy should he beat sugar boy malinga ..Who benn had already beat..And malinga upset him..
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
so your saying that if floyd doesn't fight these guys that are right here in the states...that's not worse than RJJ not fighting the europeans?

I think that remains to be seen... I just basically share my opinion that it was not roys fault that the europians did not bring the fights to him..
As far as these great fights with floyd.. I truely think the hatton fight is looking good..
Ricky has always gotten under floyds skin ..Especially since ricky stole his thunder by beating tszyu for the undisputer lww title when alot of people told floyd he had taken the easy option of facing gatti for a lww title...
Personally..I think the gatti fighht was justified..I was on the gatti bandwagon.. He had been looking great..Making a real comeback ... Was boxing more then brawling.. Looked great in outboxing and ko'ing leija.. But in all reallity we knew floyd was too much for arturo it was just hard to admit at the time.. Much like people was saying..Well lets not count out baldomir..
But floyd has alot of great wins under his belt.. Has looked great his entire career..
But he never had that one fight which was a real fight of the year type fight.. Never had to dig down and show us that tarver jones I performance..
And it might come may fifth..
As far as margarito goes... That fight doesnt fuss me..
Hatton looks like a great fight that might happen..
If floyd does stay after that..Then i should hope he keeps on with the superfights cos cotto and shane are fight everyone wants to see...
But in all fairness..Say he fights and beats both oscar and ricky then retires..Could you be mad at him for that? .. The others are great but i think we could give floyd his props and wave goodbye on just two of those big fights..
Peace

What??!?!? Jonesjunior? Is that you>!>! Floyd's number 1 nuthugger fan? ;D What's happened to you, last time you were here, you used to defend Floyd allll the time!! So you have seen the light!! DAM RIGHT Floyd needs to come back to 147 and fight guys that are YOUNG,HUNGRY!! Margarito because he's been unbeaten at WW and his resume is getting better and better(Clottey,Cintron,6 HEADS,Diaz etc and Williams next), Cotto(unbeaten, young, hungry and dangerous),Williams,Cintron,Mosley etc etc.

Haven't seen the light..He just pissed me off when he said that Shane has been running from him since 1998...
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
People lightened up on Roy after many of the guys he was said to have ducked ended up losing to journeymen, proving to have never been more worthy than anyone else he chose to fight instead. If these guys Floyd leaves on the table start losing, he'll be granted the same leway.
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
Jones Jr. was a much greater fighter than Floyd IMO. He never needed any gift decisions in his prime like Floyd did against Castillo. Prime Roy Jones was nearly untouchable. He demolished Sugar Boy Malinga, who was a good fighter. Isn't Malinga's son fighting these days?

I mean even if floyd want to say Margariot hasn't beaten anybody (which is true) what the excuse for not fighting cotto, hatton, and shane?
I'm going to have to agree with you...I'd CC you but I'm not at 100 posts yet. Floyd can retire if he so chooses after the DLH fight...He is a true hall of famer and great boxer...but he will never be known as lthe egend he wants to be known as.
I really do beleive that if Cotto remains undefeated after his next 2 fights (Urkal and Judah) then Floyd MUST fight an undefeated Cotto to gain my respect for beating an UNDEFEATED, cream of the crop fighter like Cotto. People will throw excuses if Floyd fights Marg/Shane by saying they were either old and/or have losses on there record. An undefeated Cotto against Mayweather would definetely be, IMO the toughest fight in Mayweathers career.

Very good point. Eubank wrote in his autobiography that he intentionally didnt fight Roy but refused to call it ducking. But he feared that if he stepped into the ring with someone on Roy Jones' level with the size and strength, that win or lose he would leave that ring a ruined fighter.
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
He's beat Duran, Pep, Chavez, Vargas
Those are huge names! :lolhaha:
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
Roy was pretty dominant in all but one division he fought in.
In Floyds case its a bit different, he's never really dominated a division above 130 (simply by way of not hanging around long enough to do so) hence theres always gonna be a couple of names that passed by.
If he retires after the Oscar fight i suppose in his mind he's done it all.

Not many people know about malinga..
But he was really quite a good fighter..Horrible to watch..But very very!! good defensively!!..
Benn had beaten malinga by points the fight before roy beat him..
I can tell you this..Malinga was awkward.. hard to land meaningful punches on.. and had a solid chin..
The dark destoyer had to settle for a ud..
Even chris eubank only beat him on a split decision..
Then when roy fought him..Horrible to watch for about five rounds.. Roy easily out pointing him..
But malinga was giving no leway for big shots.. Then he was knocked silly with one punch in the 6th..
Thats how good roy was.. He had never been stopped..Evidently been in with some big punchers and could take a punch..If you could land it on him..
And roy was just that fast and tricky to spark such an awkward fighter..
Peace
Re: What's floyd excuse?...
Also look at Roys/ Eubanks fights with Tony Thornton ;)
I think Roy invinted the hundred hand slap that night :o
