Re: Montiel retains WBO title plus other results.
The Montiel Gorres fight sounds good! Montiel was behind,in front of a hostile crowd but Gorres was deducted 2 points and in the last 2 or 3 rounds,Montiel was whooping Gorrez,Z had to hold on to survive and was rocked badly!

Re: Montiel retains WBO title plus other results.
Gorres wuz robbed. :'( >:mad :'( This might be coming from a biased compatriot of Gorres (that's me, fools) but IMO he outboxed and outpunched Montiel most of the time, and showed surprising power that kept Montiel at bay. As I've said before, Gorres is our most fundamentally sound boxer and he proved it last night. He never showed any respect for the Champ and kept attacking when Montiel charged. But what surprised me most was he carried an unusual power that I've never seen in him before. Montiel's head jarred really badly with those sweat-splashing jerks many times. His one eye was almost shut, but Gorres on the other hand was almost unmarked. But as usual, Montiel did show great Mexican chin, where it was clearly tougher than that of my boy. Gorres did get hurt couple of times and was clearly in trouble in the 10th and did hold Montiel there - but I think it was more due to exhaustion as both fighters had almost nothing left by the 12th - but the call by a hispanic referee was clearly premature, especially the one before that on an earlier round, a call for which Gorres was not even given a warning, though he was warned for low blows. It was clearly a dubious call as I've seen much worse holdings where refs just let go most of the time. I mean, it was clearly not a hugging match as it would seem to appear to people who haven't watched it, it just happened that Gorres held and was immediately 'called,' plain as that, though plainly stupid it clearly was. I think it's another of Golden Boy's referee tricks, reminiscent of the suspended Laurence Cole fiasco.
I think some people here probably will not agree with me and I'm pretty sure my good friend ;D Violent D will see it otherwise :-*, but I can say Gorres won that fight, much more so if it weren't for the bad calls. Gorres definitely put up a best performance of his career last night, and I'll have to congratulate him for it. Congratulations, kabayan!
Gotta go...
CC to you brodd Gamo, thanx for the thread. ;)
Re: Montiel retains WBO title plus other results.
CC back brother,I have yet to see the fight,I was just reporting what I have read. You saw it and I truth your boxing knowledge and judgement. Was it a good fight? Certianly sounds like it! And any chance of a rematch? I think it was a great chance for Gorres though, and I heard Montiel looked EXTREMELY weight drained at the weigh in.
Re: **Spoilers** Montiel vs. Z Gorrez fight
DAAMMIITT...I almost put Montiel SD for the predictiions contest. Gorrez is a real tough fighter and I knew he would make it close.
Re: **Spoilers** Montiel vs. Z Gorrez fight
Perfect!
I love split decisions 8)
Re: **Spoilers** Montiel vs. Z Gorrez fight
Good. I taught for sure they would rob Montiel.
Re: **Spoilers** Montiel vs. Z Gorrez fight
A later article by fightnews.com claims that Gorres was screwed on the decision. Anyone seen the fight or have any insight into this?

yes. i agree that gorrez was screwed. the 2 points deduction to gorrez made the fight close (rounds 10 and 12). but i certainly agree with the refs decision.
i only gave rounds 3, 4, and 10 to montiel. it was a well-fought game for gorrez. gorrez landed some good combinations to the head of montiel on rounds 1 and 2. montiel fought back brilliantly on rounds 3 and 4. rounds 5-9, saw gorrez the more dominating fighter with his punches to head and body. round 10 was an explosive round for montiel and could have knocked down gorrez if gorrez did not hold montiel hence the point deduction. by round 11, montiel was all gassed-up and and has no more power in his punches with his left eye already closed.

imo, it was the reverse that happened.
if you could only see the fight, you would also say that gorrez won.

i agree with the referees decision to deduct point to gorrez on the 10th since gorrez could be knocked-down on that round.

My fight contact is in the process of getting the fight. As soon as she gets it, I will watch it and score it. It's currently 6:40 pm over here in Los Angeles. I'm thinking it'll be around 9:30 before I can watch it. I'll let you know what I think.

i knew he was in trouble with the scorecards after the 2 point deductions. he was putting on a boxing clinic and montiel was lost in the early rounds. gorres could have put the fight away with a sure win if only he had kept doing what he was doing throughout the fight but in the late rounds he became overconfident and that's where montiel caught him and turned the tide of the fight around. i thought gorres would have eked out a win but obviously i was wrong. he'll be back though i'm sure. did you see the boomboom fight? his opponent was outclassed. i think he's ripe for a world championship fight. and aj banal's the bomb. at only 18 years old, this kid has huge huge potentials. musta sa lahat ng parekoy.
