ATT Web designers. Really Urgent!! (Domain Names)

I need some info kind urgently.. :-[

Basically the firm i work for has a shitty website.
We want it updated but our current designer’s aint really up to scratch so we wanna change companies.

Ive been working on some ideas, graphics and stuff to show my gaffer where i think we should be goin with with this new website. Its been pretty much left up to me to get it all sorted out but out of the blue ive been hit with some bad news.

The company who currently maintain our website informed me the other day that our domain name is due to expire fairly soon and it needs to be renewed.

Obviously, i can’t ask the guy as i dont want him knowing im due to cancel our contract with his firm.
But we wanna keep the web address we have at the currently but ditch them.

I dunno how it works but what i wanna know is can i some how keep the name of our current website but get a different designer on board?

Or can you renew a domain name through a different designer?

Im a bit lost at the minute but im sure someone out there knows what can and can't be done?! ;D





Please, if there is anyone with an ounce of knowledge on these things.. Help a brother out :-\

its all down to who its registered to... most likly your company but if its registered to the webguy then its his and your stuffed.

do a whois to find the info out that you need and if its registered to your company you will be fine just contact the company who registered it and get the person who its registered to to pay for it.

but if the web company have registered it in there name then they have you by the balls and you will need to sweet talk them...

Just let them know where you are wanting to take the site and if they cant do it i cant see them keeping the domain name as its usless to them really but if you get all shitty with them they will just let it run out to be rebought and prob changed into a search engine if its listed with google.

if you dont understand the above just PM me the address and i'll take a look for you and tell you what to do about it ;)

It IS registered to the company which doesn't bode for me very well! :-\

However i spoke to a rep from this other company and they said as long as i register before deadline (with current company), i can still get a new website designed (by new company)and just request a transfer (of some sort) within the next month or so.

What that means is basically i would wind up paying an extra £13 for registering our domain name with this new company (Minor problem) which also means we'd be registered for 4 years... Not sure what the downside to that is?



Thats was what i was told. I have no idea if that is a legit move or not Saddo, waddaya reckon ???

Well, some good news at last. It turns out the domain name IS regersterd to our frim after all! Pheww! :P

Gotta get this sorted out by the end of today! >:mad
