Barrera question..Some help?
Can anyone explain to me what was up with that no contest barrera got?..
Apparently the guy he beat was his sparring partner? So what? A fight is a fight is it not?
Can anyone tell me any details about what happened in the fight and how this decison came about?
Peace
Re: Barrera question..Some help?
he beat César Najera in four rounds at California. But upon finding out that Najera was actually a Barrera sparring partner with a losing boxing record, the California State Athletic Commission decided to rule the fight a no contest instead.

Theres gotta be more to it than that ..... surely? A lot of people fight their sparring partners, so what?
Re: Barrera question..Some help?
So they must have assumed that barrera's partner was just doing him and his record a favour and adding another win eh..
Not sure thats quite barrera's game.. I can kinda understand i guess...
Re: Barrera question..Some help?
Even so, fights go by every week where some fifty to one underdog fighter gets beat. Should they all be ruled no contest.

Well this matter depends on the Commsion most commisions do not allow this. In which case if it goes through and is undiscovered then it goes down as a reg. fight but if the commisions find out they normally change the result to a NC. This matter just happened recently where the commsion found out before hand and instructed that they would not sanction the fight. The fight did not happen.....
I don't know why this rule applies but like someone said in another post if you are my 'current' sparring partner and we are sheduled to fight what do you think the chances are that you and I set up the outcome of the fight?
Re: Barrera question..Some help?
It would be different if it was a Holmes/Ali type situation where the guy was a sparring partner who now has a carreer of his own and is among the elite....But the way they look at the Barrera fight was your just in here for a gimme...
