Will there ever be 1 world champ per division again?
I think multiple so called world champs is boxings biggest turn off for your avarge sports fan.
Can you imagine 2 or 3 football world champions. Its maddness
The Ring championship has given a bit more clarity to boxing fans on who the true world champs are but to Joe Public it might have made things more confusing.
Will there ever be 1 champion per division again.I hope so coz in the long run its killing boxing.
Re: Will there ever be 1 world champ per division again?
Pretty simple this one ..... No.
Theres too much money in it and 4 champs is 4 times the money.
Re: Will there ever be 1 world champ per division again?
If you look at what the WBA has done with promoting Kessler to 'super' champion status with Mundine as their regular champion, the question I fear is actually 'how long before we have multiple champions per organisation?' :-\
It's a depressing thought really

You hit the nail on the head with the Ring championships, they are the true champions IMO. I don't even bother with the alphabet sh*t. If you aren't a Ring champ then your a contender in my eyes.
I tell everyone I watch fights with that the only belt of importance to look for is the Ring belt.
Re: Will there ever be 1 world champ per division again?
I was looking thru the beltholders this morning. There was only one fighter in any division who holds more than one belt, and that's Jermain Taylor. He holds two belts at 160.
What is the biggest joke of all is that the 3 guys who are clearly the 3 best fighters in the world... Floyd, Winky, and Pac... own a combined zero belts. That tells you all you need to know about whether belts matter anymore. They mean nothing.

Ya, it hurts to not have clear beltholders. But I don't think it's the main problem regarding boxing and casual fans. The biggest problem with the sport is the lack of fights on regular free TV. You cut off a huge portion of your potential fanbase (especially younger kids) when you have all the major fights on HBO, Showtime or $40-50 PPV.

Not a problem in Britian as there is lots of boxing on free tv.

Only recently though. We had a 10 year gap with virtually nothing at all.

No way! We get hardly anything on tv, whether free or not. If a Brit isnt involved then we very rarely get to see it. So many big fights from America go by without even being mentioned on our tv. We dont even get the option to pay ppv prices for them most of the time.

Not while Mr. Porcupine Hair is still around, with his sh*t-faced smile and his silly flag-waving.
Re: Will there ever be 1 world champ per division again?
There is no way that we will ever be able to get back to 1 world champion per division. Hell would have to freeze over and then maybe we would, but not likely. The alphabelt organizations are worse than the devil.

Does Mayweather not own the welterweight belts anymore?
