I went to me 1st Boxing do last night!

Proper last minute job!

Me gaffer sorted me out with tickets and a table for 8 for a charity amateur boxing event at some swanky hotel out in the sticks. So I managed to get me mates on-side to tag along with me, all suited up, lookin the bee's knees! 8) One mate drives a Jag so we was right lookin the part ;D

Anyway, we get there. Sit down for the 3-course meal, all nicely presented by some pretty decent lookin waitresses/ Servants, whatever ::**.

Anyway, the guy who organised the do comes over to our table and asks "is everything okay"?
Were all nodding with big wide smiles, with over-dressed prawn-cocktail starters hanging out our gobs and he says
"All right, any problems, just find me. Just thought id let you know we've got an auction on later in between the boxing and we'll be having a little award ceremony as well".
"We've got Nicky Cooke who's just over there handing out the trophies. He's an undefeated European Champion. We've also got Frank Maloney over there."

Me mates kinda have this blank look on there faces but I’m fukin beamin! ;D

It took me a while to spot Cookie though, he had hair ??? And he's going Grey?! ;D Kinda looks like Lee Evans! ::**

Anyway, the boxing itself was okay. It was mainly Dagenham ABC boys against a "select" bunch. It started off as a couple of kids gettin bullied and blooded early on the n some big fat fwockers at the end.... That shat was too funny though ::**
There was one crackin fight though, one guy was from the Peacock (my local) and too be honest, looked like a right wally with his shorts half way up his chest. The other guy was Dagenham ABC. I thought it was gonna be an embarrassment but to the guys credit, he came out and basically windmills for 3 round and beat the guy from pillar to post. Definitely crowd pleasing stuff ;D

The auction was great fun. My gaffer phoned me up and gave me strict instructions to go for the signed England -1966 World cup jersey. I had a limit on 15 hundred ;D

I didn't get it, I think it went for about 18 hundred but I had heads turning like "who's this major player?" :P

Good stuff though, nice alternative to a boring Thursday evening in! Plus it’s a 1st for me 8)

Good stuff mate - alwways nice 'Lording' it up at these doos - can't beat it!

I think ive got the bug now. Right now, Id willing to pay a couple hundred on a proper night of boxing ^-^

Still when you got boxing, your mates & beer! forget it those are the best times especially when they are not planned and the moment presents itself out of no where.... ;)

When I was in Vegas I was sooo close to buying a Beckham signed jersey (England) for $600 dlls.... Instead I decided to gamble and wound up loosing $300 but my girlfriend won $1,600 on the roulette tables.....
She would pitch in for my jersey! she instead bought me clothes at Dolce & Gabbana.... :)

Me lady really likes boxing and enjoys a good scrap.....
The only bad thing is shes somehow become my opposite she likes the fighters I don't like.... :(

Cool stuff. Only been to one amateur event, the San Francisco Golden Gloves last year. My "uncle" is part of a biker club that is the title sponsor for the event so I ran into him and it was pretty fun. It was at the Civic Center and they had a whole skyline set up it was cool and I met a fighter by the name of Karim Mayfield from here in Oakland. He's a wild guy and I saw his second or third pro fight a few months ago but what stuck out about him was that he has the best collection of trunks/robes I've ever seen. Asked him about it after his fight as a pro and he designs them himself, honestly I think he could make a career designing trunks alone.

On a sidenote I've always wanted to play up to a part for one night. I've always wanted to go back east or down south from California in Lacoste shorts and polo, sandals, Oakleys and my hair dyed blond just to see how I would be received. The high roller thing would be fun but then again...I would need money :-[
