Calzaghe wants Kessler 100%
Joe Calzaghe says he can't afford a scrappy display on Saturday night if he is to secure his dream showdown with Jermain Taylor or Mikkel Kessler in the summer.
Promising to put on a boxing masterclass against Peter Manfredo Jr at the Millennium Stadium, Calzaghe, 42-0, added that he was keen to impress American network HBO.
That follows his HBO debut in October, when Sakio Bika employed dirty tactics in a 12-round war that went to points.
"I'm aiming to put on a masterclass," said the undefeated WBO super-middleweight champion shortly before looking good in a media workout in his native South Wales.
"I've never fought anyone as dirty as Bika before and hopefully I'll never fight anyone as dirty again. Manfredo gives me the chance to go back to Calzage the boxer.
"It's not just about winning. I want to put on a Jeff Lacy style masterclass. It's about sticking to the game plan, about totally focusing on beating Manfredo.
"Sometimes in the past I have showboated but I won't be doing that on Saturday.
"The pressure is on me. I think he is a dangerous fighter. He is going to fight like his life depends on it and he is very confident. It's up to me to knock that confidence out of him.
"At the end of the day, I'm fully confident of winning the fight in spectacular fashion be it over one round or 12 rounds."
Although Calzaghe wasn't keen on looking past Manfredo, 26-3, he did say that he was still intent on meeting either Kessler or Taylor.
"They are the two fights I want," said 35-year-Calzaghe. "Kessler only looked good against an average fighter last time. He beat Markus Beyer but he'd sold himself to the highest bidder. 100% I'll fight the guy."
Promoter Frank Warren added: "If Joe wins well then that puts us in a strong position further down the line. But he shouldn't be taking anything for granted, and I'm sure he won't be."
Calzaghe-Manfredo will take place at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on Saturday night, with HBO screening the fight live in America and ITV1 in the UK.

Still funny how Calzaghe says Kessler "only looked good against an average opponent". on the eve of fighting Manfredo himself.
Andrade is perhaps not great opposition. But he was well ranked, young, undefeated and very tough.
Calzaghe is in NO possition to be critical of others. in regards to the choice of opposition.

Hope he does fight Kessler because he will get beat Calzaghe has been kidding us for last ten year making out he's the real deal Kessler is the type of fighter who is the real deal Kessler's title fights have already started off at a higher quality than Calzaghes did Calzaghes a joke he should stick to fighting the Bika's and Manfredo's of the supermiddle world

Why would you want to show boat against a punk like Manfredo Jr. He aint shiet.
Manfredo does terrible against fighters who can flurry. Calzaghe is going to make Peter look like a deer caught in some very bright headlights. We seen what Sergio Mora did to his azz in the flurry dept and Mora according to the Manfredo fans hits like a girl. Peter called Joe a slapper ;D it just so happens that this slapper has 31 knock outs :o I can't wait until he slaps the shiet out of Pedork. I think Calzaghe should biatch slap Manfredo during the fight just for good measure ;D

Well talking about Kessler is a good start ::** it usually takes a couple of years from this point to actually get the fight made ;D first of all he has to recover from the injury that he normally sustains before a big bout. :(

Truely...I'd love to see Calzaghe vs Kessler end in a draw...but for the betterment of the sport...somebody's got to fwockin unify them belts.
I go back & forth on whom I'd want to see pull it out...but I been a fan of Joe's longer...so I'd have to go with Calzaghe...but it'd have to be a legit win.

Haha CC. I would bet the house that this fight does not happen in 2007. And I doubt it even gets signed in 2007.
