JOE CALZAGHE will fight Mikkel Kessler to decide who is the world’s top 12st fighter.
WBO super middleweight champion Calzaghe last night promised that unbeaten WBC and WBA holder Kessler will go the same way as Jeff Lacy, the highly-touted American he overwhelmed last year.
Calzaghe, 35, makes the 20th defence of his title against Peter Manfredo in Cardiff on Saturday.
The Welshman said: “Kessler is a carbon copy of Lacy.
"When I got injured and pulled out of the first date against Lacy people called me chicken.
“Then I destroyed him only for people to say he was never any good anyway.
“If I have to fight Kessler to unify the division I will. Just because he beat some average Mexican called Librado Andrade doesn’t make him a great fighter.”
Calzaghe should deal easily with Manfredo, 26, the star of Sylvester Stallone’s US TV reality show The Contender.
The 35,000-strong crowd under the Millennium Stadium roof will be the biggest ever in Europe to watch an indoor fight.
Calzaghe said: “It’s a dream come true and I fancy myself to stop him.”

Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
He OBVIOUSLY doesn't mean styles wise.
And it's perfectly reasonable for him to say that. At the moment the Kessler situation is very similar to the Lacy situation... before Calzaghe battered him. ;)
Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
Hehehe - Kessler just beat an "average" Mexican named Andrade...who was unbeaten, and solid, if nothing else.
Is it me, or is Joe's next bout also with an "average" fighter?
Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
Kessler is a complete fighter with great skills for Calzaghe to say he is a carbon copy of Lacy is madness

No, Lacy did never beat a champ to become one. Lacy struggled several times against average opponents as Sheika and Thompson.
Kessler is unified champ and has never struggled against mediocre opponents.

Sorry mate, but if Andrade is an "average" mexican, then Manfredo is a fu**ing joke. Andrade was a rated fighter, and whatever it takes Palle and Warren need to get their heads together and make the fight happen.
When Joe refers to a "carbon copy" he, as Fenster correctly points out, is referring to the situation with Kessler rather than the fighter himself. People are talking up Kessler big time, like they did Lacy, and as long as the fight gets made the situation is resolved.
And if anyone with any sway reads this, remember one thing:
MAKE THE GOTDAMN FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thats not the point.
The situation as far as Calzaghe's concerned is he has ANOTHER young unbeaten guy calling him out, along with the boxing world demanding he should face him, just like the Lacy situation...and the same divs that now write-off the Lacy win as worthless will do the same should he beat kessler
Lacy became regarded by the "fans" as the TRUE and rightfull no.1 champion in the division before he got battered too ;)
Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
I give Calzaghe some stick on here but if he beats Kessler he deserves the respect of a true champ as for Lacy he was overated shite
Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
Overrated shite that started FAVOURITE on the back of looking devastating, destroying Pemberton and most importantly Robin Reid.. the man that gave Calzaghe his toughest fight.

No I'm not joking Robing Reid gave Calzaghe his toughest fight.
Did you think I meant someone else? ;D

Yeah 1 judge gave that to Reid by 5 rounds . There should have been an immediate rematch but we missed out on that . Now Reid is washed up anyway .
Kessler and Joe would be a massive fight . I dont know where it might happen but if it did , it could rival 35k for this fight . Hope it happens but it probably wont
Re: Joe: I can take the Mikkel
A fight with Kessler is not comparable styles wise to the fight with Lacy, but in other respects Calzaghe is correct....
I hope the fight comes off...

That's how I meant that - I'm really good at not getting my point across ;)
I thought it funny that JC was pointing fingers at Kessler's competition right before a bout with Manfredo.
Hilarious.
