Most disciplined fighter of all time?
When I say this, I mean in AND out of the ring. Someone who NEVER undertrained, never came into a fight out of shape. Someone who kept his nose clean and never let the temptations that come with money and power destroy his career (like guys like Tyson and Ibeabuchi). And in terms of "in ring", guys who weren't fustrated easy, guys who weren't thrown off of their gameplans.
The guy who comes to my mind first is B-hop...
Hopkins as a guy who never balooned up in weight and was always in shape (stayed at the same weight pretty much his whole career). I've never seen him come into a bout unprepared or out of shape. And obviously the guy wouldn't have lasted as long as he did unless he had some serious discipline.
Anyway what do you guys think? I Know there are TONS more that could be listed and made a case for. Marvin Hagler stuck out in my mind as well.
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
Hagler and Mayweather are in that mould as well.

Holyfield used to get drunk and sleep around a lot, and put needles in his ass cheeks.

Lol really never heard of that before.
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
He's only human. I don't remember him ever coming in out of shape or his fucking of various women effecting his in ring performance.
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
Willie Pep
Evander Holyfield
Marvin Hagler
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
But the most disciplined... Hagler, Hopkins and Mayweather were insanely strict.
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
I'd go with B Hop too. He's always in shape, hasn't even eaten a chocolate bar in 20 years and looks better than most boxers half his age.
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
B-hop is pretty damned hard to argue with, guy lives like a spartan
Norton never disappointed on the conditioning front
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
B-Hop Definately. Oscar is usuallly except vs Sturm. Even though i cant stand him, PBF is very disciplined.
Ali was very disciplined and it didnt hurt that he is Muslim
Calzaghe and SSM deserve mention too
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
Rocky Marciano used to train for 4 months before every fight, and he fought 3 times a year !!!
Re: Most disciplined fighter of all time?
i agree about hopkins.calzaghe definately deserves a metion, made the weight for 20 successful defences.not bad for someone of his natural size.as someone said the other day,he has it down to a fine art

Rocky was another guy that stood out in my mind. Joe Walcott was outboxing him for most of the fight but he never seemed to lose his cool and get wild. I heard that he'd run 10 miles a day, rain or shine, regardless of the weather.

CC BeanFlicker.
B-Hop no doubt. You talk about success story?
If you look up the word Disciplined in the dictionary, you will see a photo of B-Hop.
The man was a statistic. He changed his life around and has kept his nose clean.
He is a great example and role model. You got to love him.

Biography
Bernard Hopkins was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, growing up in the Raymond Rosen housing projects and later in Germantown, where he became involved in crime and gang activity at a young age. Today, he describes himself as a "thug" in his youth and regrets that it took a stint in prison for him to turn his life around.
Late in 1982, when Hopkins was in the 11th grade, he was convicted and sentenced to 18 years in the state penitentiary for "strong-arm robbery" (not armed robbery - beating people and taking their money). For fifty-six months, from 1984 through 1989, Hopkins was one of three thousand inmates in Graterford State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania. While incarcerated, he decided to turn his life around. Hopkins studied for and earned his high school diploma, and also began to take part in boxing again, which he had done off and on as a youth.
During four years and eight months in prison, Hopkins won the national penitentiary middleweight championship three times. He converted to Islam during his incarceration and was paroled in 1988, as soon as he was eligible. His dedicated approach to the faith helped him build his successful monastic boxing career by instilling discipline in the once troubled young adult.
