Nope. I say that he should have fought at 160-168lbs for the duration.
I like ole' Joe...no if's, and's, or buts...except one but...he shoulda got Wright, Hopkins, & Taylor during his tenure.
Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
I do agree with you ICB but Warren would probably never have put him in with any of those guys anyway.
Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
I want him to stay at 168 lb now. He's only 4 wins away from equalling Joe Luis record of 24 successful defenses and even if he says it doesn't matter to him I'm sure that it does.
If you were in Calzaghe's shoes wouldn't you want that accolade. To have made more succesful world title defenses than ANY other boxer in the history of the sport?
I'd rather have that title than a win over Clinton Woods or Antonio Tarver any day of the week.

Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
Well he wouldnt be undefeated right now or Champion..so no he shouldve stayed at the weaker division, where his resume looks good and he can dominate. Roy, Johnson, Michalcheski, would have beaten him
Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
One thing I can never hold against a fighter is whether or not they move up and down in weight. If he feels comfortable and feels at his best at 168 which he obviously does, there is absolutely no reason to move up or down. Like it or not, he is probably the greatest super middleweight of all time and if not top 3 unquestionably. And that's a lasting mark.
Same thing with people talking about Hatton moving up 7 lbs. Well, he feels best at 140 so let him stay there.

:coolclick: Completely agree! Why is not not enough to be known as the best in one division and dominate it for over 10 years? That can mean more than someone who keeps changing weight to pick off the weakest champs in several divisions. Joe is without doubt the best super middle weight in the world and has been for a long time. Why cant people understand that? Hes not a middle weight and hes not a light heavy either so why on earth should he go out of his way to fight people of those weights?

Because when you keep facing bad opponents and mediocre opponents it frustrates people because he has got talent but has wasted his talent on mostly fighting bums or old former world champions he should be getting big fight against Kessler in September but is it going to happen ?? no will he get Kessler Hopkins or Taylor in future ?? probably not and thats what annoys people that right there.

Kessler turned down a fight in July, how's that Calzaghe's fault?
Hopkins has never wanted to face Calzaghe, how's that Calzaghes fault?
Taylor has been offered a fight, if the fight doesn't happen how's that Calzaghes fault?

He knows damn well that Kessler couldn't fight in July so Warren is just talking it up to make out there turning it down which is not true.
He offered Taylor the fight but did you hear what he offered it was joke fight in July when he has to fight Spinks in may move up to his weight and go over to Uk what a joke thats reason's why its both Calzaghe's and Warren's fault because they know they won't accept so there doing it so it looks like there turning down good offer when thats not true.
Imo Calzaghe will never get big fights he can get all records he wants fighting bums but i will know he never fought best so them records won't mean much.
Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
Course he should have moved up he threatened to often enough when he had bad performances he would say im struggling at the weight i need to move up then he would'nt but then he came up with the hand and back excuses if he moved up i think he would struggle these guys weigh in 7lbs heavier come fight night they weigh over 13stone Joe is a slim build really

Maybe because he wants to rest i can understand that why can't Warren just offer it for September then im sure there gladly accept.
Re: Calzaghe Should Of Moved Up to Lightheavyweight Years Ago Agreed ??
Kessler don't wanna fight cause he needs a REST!?! And you think that's an OK excuse!?! Blimey!
So Calzaghe should just forget all about earning another Million quid in July because old Kessler needs a little rest.
What if Kessler hasn't rested enough by September? What if they find another excuse? I guess thats Calzaghe's fault too? ;D
