Wacko's Drunken Re-Cap of Clottey vs Corrales. Is this the end of Corrales? Vote
So it’s Tuesday night…& the wife has said no to the booty…so with nothing else on hand…Wacko has tuned in to the replay of Corrales vs. Clottey.
With this match well under hand & already played out…I have but one question to ask…and this question?
Is Corrales headed for journeyman status?
I think so.
Here’s the way I saw it:
Corrales vs. Clotty Round 1: Here we go. Corrales & Clottey come out jabbing. Corrales moving & shaking…but Clottey more effective. Left hook and right by Clottey. Sharpish. Corrales eats em well. Corrales to the body. Left hooks by Clottey. Corrales warned for going low. Corrales with a combo. Heavy body work by Clottey. Right by Clottey. Corrales is hurt! Corrales holds & then goes down. It’s a slip.
Corrales vs. Clotty Round 2: Corrales comes out jabbing & Clottey answers with the same. Corrales staying more center ring and has reduced his movement. Right to the body Body work by Corrales. 1-2-3 by Clottey. Corrales pushes Clottey to the ropes with a left hook up top. Clottey hammering Corrales all over the ring. Left to the body by Clottey. Clottey upstairs wioth a vicious combo. Heavy handed uppercut by Clottey on the insside. Clottey’s totally in control. Clottey rallies & lands 2-3 left hooks. Right uppercuts fro Clotty. Corrales felt that shit!!!
Corrales vs. Clottey Round 3-5 = Brief intermission.
Sorry people…a man’s gotta do what a man’s gotta do.
We back!!! Unsuccesful at doing what a man’s gotta do.
Corrales vs. Clotty Round 6: Clottey still slugging it out shoulder to shoulder & Corrales just eating uppers. Right hand rocks Corrales & he seems totally outmatched. Corrales firing combos but Clottey takes them in stride. Jab from Corrales. Uppers from Clottey. Corrales wobbles as the ref jumps in to end the round.
Corrales vs. Clottey Round 7: Corrales comes out jabbing & eats oine from Clotty. Clench. Right & left hook from Corrales. Body shots by Clottey. This is a shoulder to shoulder bout. Right from Corrales. Left hook from Clottey. 1-2 from Clottey. Left hook from Corrales. 1-2-3 from Clottey. Shoulder to shoulder still. Ref breaks. Uppers from both. Clottey more effective. Corrales lands a straight right. Clottey fires in hard with a 1-2/ Cprrles seems to be coming on. Shoulder to shoulder again & body work from both. Clench. Left hook to the body followed by a right from Clottey. Clench to the bell. Clottey hammers home some nice left & right hoooks to the bell.
Corrales vs. Clottey Round 8: Corrales comes out swinging. Clotty taking shots & giving right left hooks back. Clench. Corrales seems to be tired. Body shot from Corrales & a huge left hook from Clottey. Shoulder to shoulder & they trade body & uppers. Clench. Uppers on the inside from Corrales. Nice right hand from Clottey. 1-2 from Clottey. Right hand from Corrales. Left hoook from Clottey. Wack! Gotdam that had to hurt!!! Both men exchange hooks & Clottey come out ahead. Nice 4 punch combo from Clottey. Corrales is hurt. He felt that. Right hand from Corrales. Upper from Corrales& Clottey tees off on him. Right hand & then a left hook & once agvain Coorrales is hurt.
Corrales vs. Clottey Round 9: Clottey first to throw. Shoulder to shoulder again. Clottey comes on strong. Corrales winging his shots. No effect. Clottey pushes him off. Clench. Clottey holding. Body shots from Corrales. Clottey holds. Right hook from Clottey. Clecnh again. Clottey hammers him with a right & a left & down goes Corrales on a push. Corrales was hurt though. Corrales comes out holding. Clottey comes in with his head. Body shots by Corrales. Clottey hammers him again & down he goes & out comes the mouth piece. Typical Corrales. Clottey jumps on him again & hammers him viciously . He made the bell. He got lucky.
Corrales vs. Clottey Round 10: Corrales is cut & bloodied & wasted. Final round. They touch gloves. Clottey throws & Corrales holds. Shoulder to shoulder they trade. Again, lightening combos from Clottey & Corrales just easts them. Left hand hammers Corrales. Left hook again. He’s wide open. Upper from Clottey. Corrales is throwing…but nothing major is landing. Left hook from Clottey. Corrales jabs. Clotteylands the left hook & then a right that sends Corrales & his mouthpiece to the canvas. Point taken away. Again…typical Corrales. Corrales bleeding like a stuck pig. Clottey ready for th kill. Right hand followed by a left & then another right. Left hook by Corrales. Clottey on his toes & jabbing. Clench & that’s it.
Clottey won that one & Wacko didn’t get no booty from zee wiz-ife!
Personally…I say the man’s headed straight to journeyman status. He just can’t make it out of the matches anymore. He’s as open as a book.
You?

I voted “Corrales is a warrior...blah blah blah...eye roll.” due to the fact that I think he should retire much like Gatti.
Personally…I hate it when people laude a fighter for being able to take an ass whipping…I much prefer my fighters to be able to elude the ass whipping & dish it out while putting on a master class defensive performance.
Corrales is getting close to journeyman status & needs to rethink his career.
Maybe he should apply at Lowes or Home Depot & load lumber or some shit because boxing aint his game.
Anyone that's fast eats his ass alive.

I tend to agree with the fact he is past it. Good win for clottey tho. Nice name for the resume......

Yeah, it seems like journeyman status is just about where he's headed... Having said that, he could be one hell of a journeyman even at welterweight.. Any young prospect would still have a lot to gain in beating him for the time being, and he could be a supreme test for young prospects, etc. Have trouble thinking of a legitimate contender he would beat at this point, but don't see why he couldn't be matched against someone on the way up.

He should have one more go of things... at 140. Im sure he could make the weight.
Welterweights are just too big these days. 140 just sounds better all round for Corrales.

What does Coralles have to prove??? I mean he has the respect of everyone. Could it be he is only fighting for the monies? A case of living beyond his means? I hope not. Retire gracefully. With honor. Please.

I want Corrales - Gatti. Honestly I think that is a match that I want made almost more then any other because we're guaranteed nothing other then a great fight.
Clottey is very good though. Especially on the inside on the outside he isn't that good and tends to open up to much but Clottey is the real deal and I think he'll be a champion one day. Very fast on the inside, fairly good defense on the inside and he can take a punch. His bout with Gutierrez was very entertaining except for the fact that there wasn't much drama to it and Clottey won clearly (who scored it a draw I don't know, but it was 116-112 at best imo) but it was a good slugfest.
I think Corrales' run as a champion of any sort is clearly over, but he is a matchmaker's dream because he's a guy who can't be in a bad fight. I really want to see him and Gatti go at it in Atlantic City. Both have fought a lot there, and now they find themselves at the same weight class. I hope it happens.

:coolclick: Totally agree that it was a hell of a win for Clottey. He showed much skill, poise, & heart. Took all that Corrales had & then gave some. Good win...but, IWO, Corrales is & has been running on borrowed time.

:coolclick: Well said...couldn't agree more.

Honestly...I just can't side with you on this.
He's had a hell of a time making weight near the mark...it's effecting him. Only certain fighters can pull off the weight jumping...& they often end up getting stung before all is said & done.
I truly believe that Corrales has seen his best days.

:coolclick: Agreed. Nothing left to prove & better safe than sorry.
Am I the only one that thought Corrales sounded a bit...odd during the post fight interview? Hard to explain...not slurry...but slower.

Well...that'd be an attrocity. Why do people want to even see Gatti continue? I just don't get it. That fight would best be called what it is..."The Last March of the Sacrificial Lambs"!

Clottey is good. Very impressive wins of late...personally...I think that he was hammering Margarito quite well. Too bad his hands couldn't hold out for the duration.

I agree...his runs over...but so is Gatti's. To me...Gatti has always been nothing more than a glorified journeyman. I just can't root for a man who's most impressive bouts are basically beatdowns that he has taken.

I voted that Chico is finished. Well, finished winning. I think he may squeeze one or two paydays out what's left of his career.
He looked weak as a kitten if you ask me.

:coolclick: Agreed.
Thing is...are the paydays worth it at the risk of his own health? He's taken some SERIOUS hidings.

A very good point that no one seems to be touching on...his strength seemed to be lax & he did indeed look outmatched throughout the fight.
Re: Wacko's Drunken Re-Cap of Clottey vs Corrales. Is this the end of Corrales? Vote
I voted that Corrales is finished, which is kind of hard for me to admit, as he is one of my favorite fighters. I think that the fights with Castillo, both of them, damaged Corrales beyond repair. That and the damage he did to himself in all those years of trying to make weight. He has been a great warrior throughout the years, but I think its time for him to hang em up. Like Teddy Atlas said to Michael Moore on FNF a while back, I'm paraphrasing, "You've been a champion, done all there is to do, so what's the point of continuing? You're only going to harm yourself and your legacy."
However, I still think he has enough left in the tank to beat Gatti (whose basically a walking corpse at this point), but that's about the only big name I would give Diego a chance against.
That Gatti comment will probably earn me my 2nd anonymous sad click like it did last time, but he's done too. Neither of these guys should be fighting anymore and I wonder why their supposed handlers are interested in allowing them to continue.

Welcome to the forum. Have the Obligatory Wacko Welcome Wagon :coolclick:
Totally agree with the Gatti comment. All is good...neither should be fighting IWO also.

I'm pretty sure that was on account of his broken jaw.

;D
Its a shame that apparently he cant make 140. He's wasted at 147. For Corrales, a fight with Gatti is about as good as it will get financially.
Maybe if he accepted his new journeyman status some interesting fights could be made with the likes of Andre Berto etc

why should he put himself up as a punchbag for any prospect? boxers are a proud bunch losing still hurts unless he's blown all his cash and needs to fight why continue. Maybe he can go back to punching women?
