Re: National Anthem Butchery
You're a fuckin stupid! Have you ever heard or understand any words from that Philippine anthem? to make this simple it's actually sung fast than it should be.. youre just stupid.
Re: National Anthem Butchery
Sorry Shina, I don't know any words of the song or anything like that, it just seemed to be going on for a helluva long time that's all. All 3 anthems did...
To be honest, I just wanted the fight to start and the introductions/anthems took WAY too long for me...

They could do away with all of the singing of the national anthems if you ask me. You can have pride in your country without singing about it at every single sporting event. Its not even realistic to real life. Do you ever walk around your house and sing the national anthem or hear it played on the radio? Absolutely not, but at certain places they want to pretend like the song is a part of your everyday routine. And the live singing on the anthems can be pretty horrendous in itself.
Re: National Anthem Butchery
Did anyone hear the anthems for the Valuev-Chagaev fight? They had a sweet sound.
Re: National Anthem Butchery
Grieg I dont really have an opinion either way. But it does get me pumped up hearing the anthem before fights and races pumps me up. Honestly you had to expect to piss someone off talking about a country's national anthem.. ha ha ha.

Also, 3 national anthems?? Eh, excuse me but I want to watch two guys box not a F****** concert. And how long is the Phillipines national anthem? Jesus christ, that thing went for so long I felt like asking the barman if I could just roll out a tent and sleep there til DLH/Mayweather starts...
I will have to assume that this is not your first boxing match where there were fighters NOT from the USA. It is customary and traditional to sing the anthem of the fighters and the country that the match is being held. Also it would have helped that perhaps they screen the folks who sing the US national anthem, I can recall sometime ago when Rosann Barr 'slaughtered' it.
Now you think that 'Lupang Hinirang' - Philippine National Anthem is long? It is actually suppose to be sung in a fast mode, as it is a March, not a concert piece. This has been brought up at least from 2 of Pac's last fight by the Senators and other 'influental' people of the PI. Trust me, the PI anthem is not long at all, try holding a salute for 'Kimigayo' - Japanese National Anthem, as you say, you could camp out till the next fight on that one.
You could always just be waiting in line for a cold beer while the anthems are going on, if you don't want to hear them. 8)

I don't think it is so much as of being pissed off, but rather a lack of knowledge into the culture, history and traditions of another country.

Had you had any proper knowledge about how national anthems are created you would just respect the singing. People died for our freedoms. Don't forsake their sacrifices just because you have no patience. Patience my dear is a virtue.... even in boxing.
Re: National Anthem Butchery
I think national anthems add to the mystique of world championship bouts between boxers of different countries. Boxing's an international sport, and there are many countries with dedicated fans who revere their champions. So I say carry on with the anthems, and let us fans give due respect to all champions and the countries they represent.
