A friend of mine and me keep arguing the correct way to breathe when doing.... PUSH UPS!
Is the proper way to:
1) exhale when you are extending and inhale when you return back to lower position?
2) inhale when you are extending and exhale when you return back to lower position?
its driving me NUTS!
please state what is the correct way to breathe and explain your reasoning. I'll kindly COOL CLICK you!

i'd say #1. usually you breathe out when contracting the muscles.

Well I don't think it really matters. For boxing however, I think it would be silly to punch and breath in at the same time. Ideally you want to keep the same patterns in the boxing ring and off..... Good habits bring good results.

It's number 1, your chest naturally expands when you're on the way down on a push up.

No. 1. Exhale on the lift so as to limit the blood pressure when the muscles contract and to help avoid a possible hernia when you do something strenuous. :)
