Platov to face Holyfield!
It has been rumoured today in Belgium that Oleg Platov, 25-1 (21ko), fresh from a win last Saturday in Stuttgart against Colin Wilson for his IBF Intercontinental title will probably face Evander Holyfield, 41-8-2 (27Ko) next June 15 in Canada.

Never heard of this guy but he has decent record 25-1 (21ko),

Hope Holyfield steps it up soon though LG i really want him to win title one more time and he has good shot against Briggs.
Re: Platov to face Holyfield!
As I'm perhaps the only Belgian person on this forum, yes I do know Oleg Platov very well :-)
I used to train in the same gym as him during his amateur and early pro career (he's training in Germany now). He's very powerful, very determined and....compared to holyfield : YOUNG.
He has some real real power, I know that he can knock people out with a single punch...and he was doing so when he was 16 or 17 (knocking out people aged of 20 -25).
I really believe this one could be a good test in order to see is Holyfield is ready or not. Platov, is young, but he's not defensive enough, he tends to brawl and does not protect him too much while doing it...against someone like holy, he could be hard for him.
Holy crushed maddalone some months ago, platov would be someone of a higher calibre....interesting match up in my book (with platov style of : brawling and never ever back-pedalling against someone...) and platov is someone who endures a hard training for each fight.
by the way : for the one who will ask : the only defeat from Oleg came when he was very very young, he just snapped and went after the guy during every round because he wanted to ko the guy who was counter punching him...he even went down in the 5th or 6th I think (but he wasn't hurt). he was just : too young and lost his temper against a mediocre opponent...he took his revenge since then, and never lost again.
Re: Platov to face Holyfield!
Well Evander going against a young power punching Heavy is actually a good test for him, lets see how he can hold up with someone that has great pop and will be naturally fresh due to age...
SEB I'm Curious to know how bad his defense is in a division that isint known for it in the 1st place so thats a gimme, so when you actually draw attention to it, gotta be real piss poor.. 8)

barf, I just say that even against a old lion like Holy, it could cost him the bout. Holy still can punch too...and if Platov is wide open while swinging and brawling...
I never liked his defense, I saw his butt kicked in a sparring session agasint a really good boxer (light heavyweight or cruiser) who was in a peek a boo style.
How much he progressed at his age ? I don't know, he proved that he could do it agasint Akinwande...and nowadays I think that Akinwande would beat Holy...(yeah I know)
Re: Platov to face Holyfield!
The enthusiasm of JT Rock and Lords' Gym on this forum for Holyfield is contagious, so I would hope that Holyfield would come through a tough fight making a statement that he is still a force, cause whatever you say, Holyfield could invigorate a dilapidated division if he really is as good as he was, or even at 90 per cent of what he was.

Me and Lords know you got to believe..... He is taking baby steps toward regaining champion status, testing his skills while revving up the comp... I would say he is 2 succesful fights away from a title shot
If anyone can amaze us and defy the odds, I couldnt think of any other guy but Evander Holyfield ;)

Have you seen 'Happy Gilmore' JT? Well I'll quote from that great epic of our time, and say:
"He's old, he's just old, you can't do that to him, he's just so......so old" (there may have been some paraphrasing)
Re: Platov to face Holyfield!
he's old, but okay, he's old enough to know what he wants to do...
Nobody told to Jimmy connors he was risking an heart attack...we let him played.

ridiculous statement :D . Evander at 44 is in better health, better condition, and more determined then 99% of the division.
