Just curious...Oscar vs Mayweather...does Mosley fit the bill as a fill in?
While helping Oscar prepare for his upcoming super fight against Mayweather, Shane Mosley has been quoted as saying: "I’m just as fast as Mayweather and that’s going to help him to be able to think when he gets in there with Mayweather.
“Mayweather is not as strong as I am, but you know I’m not out here throwing hard shots. I’m out here doing nothing but speed, a lot of speed, a lot of movement, a lot of what Mayweather will do. And, I think that he’s going to be ready for that. Anything and everything that Mayweather does, I’m trying to give it to him where he can have it, left hooks, fast jabs, and right hand. I’m giving him the works where he’ll be prepared when he gets in the ring.”
Now...what I want to discuss & what I want to know from you is this...do you, as a boxing fan & not a critic, put any stock into those statements.

Is Mosley a good model for Mayweather?
Is Mosley as fast as Floyd?
Does Mosley pull the same angles, the same tricks of the trade?

Mine?
Mosley fits the bill better than anyone else...but I honestly don't think that it's saying that much.
Mainly because, while Mosley is fast, he aint as fast & he doesn't throw from the same angles because of Floyd's defensive style. Personally I think that Floyd's defense will give anyone trouble.
The main thing that I saw in the HBO 24/7 that impressed me was that Oscar did look a bit more determined than I had expected.
I still say that the size is going to be the difference.
All that said...I'm still gonna lean with Floyd.

Its close even now, in his prime shane through faster combos, mayweather does more of rjj thing pot shots you and opens up once your stunned
N3. No mosley does not have the footwork, shane i belive takes a better punch is physically stronger and mabey faster but he hasnt the defensive mastery

I think, mosley is a big test 4 any fighter dnt forget he holds those wins over de la hoya, so if de la hoya wins another fight with oscar or even a showdown with mayweather.

Yes and no. Shane is right,he is dam fast and he hits harder than Floyd. But as for the speed issue,it's 2 different types of speeds. Floyd is the embodiment of seameless foot and hand movement,Shane is not as fleet footed but at these weights,Shane puts his combinations together much better than Floyd. There's no one as close to Floyd speed wise as Shane but there is still a noticeable disparity. It's good training for Oscar but it's not like the real thing.
Ivan Calderon however,that's ingenious selection of sparring partner by Oscar. The guy is super skilled,tiny and quick! A very very impressive fighter,you'd like him Wack,a pure boxer.

Yes and no for me too. Not too many as quick as Shane have i seen since I've been watching the sport. But also seems to be different type of speed as mentioned above and certainly different angles from PBF. If mosley can't prepare him for the speed aspect perhaps Mick could have him chasing chickens around?

Seen him loads on undercards live & televised.
While I do like him...he aint a good mark for Floyd. The kid's fast...& skilled & fun to watch & he'll dominate at his weight & maybe on step up...but I aint sure past that.

CC back man. Yeah but with Calderon,Oscar will have to learn how to cut off the ring and quickly,and because Calderon is so small,it'll make it hard for Oscar! Also,like you mentioned,the angles aspect is important too. Floyd Mayweather is an ass,he's unintelligent and stupid outside of the ring but when he it comes to the sweet science,he's a genuis pure and simple.
His defence is calculated to take advantage of any mistakes as indeed is his offence. Remember Ndou's lazy jab which he countered over and over! That's skill,that's analysis,that's genius. Molsey relies more on his speed,technically,he is very flawed. That may or may not be an issue, May be Oscar' size can overcome Floyd's technical superiority?

Anyway, to answer your question, Mosley would be the best choice for someone preparing for Mayweather when it came to speed. But it's really not saying as much as that Mosley said he's just in there working on speed. And from the 24/7 he's not making Oscar pay for the mistakes he makes, and rather is letting Oscar get off while being defensive and firing quick combinations for Oscar to practice his own defense on. And that's what Floyd won't do.
Also I think Mosley neglects a punch that makes Floyd very special, his straight right hand, and personally I haven't seen Mosley throw a straight right hand in years, he always seems to loop it now after two flickering jabs.
Mosley can use angles but his style and Floyd's style couldn't be further apart.
If anything, Mosley can match or get close to the speed of Mayweather. But in terms of knee jerk reflexes and offense and defense combined as one, I don't tink you could find a sparring partner on earth to prepare you for that.

There is no one out there as fast as Mayweather right now, so Mosley can't prepare DLH for Floyd's speed, but he's the closest thing.
Shane and Floyd do have much different styles though. Floyd has always used his speed to execute a prefect defensive scheme, whereas Shane has used his speed to dive in and throw combos.
Floyd is more Pernell Whitaker, whereas Shane was always more Meldrick Taylor.

I thought that I was the only one who saw this.Floyd creates angles,switches his game plan,has great timing,and is hard to predict.One minute he sits and counters...the other minute he is throwing lead right hands.Its not just finding a sparring partner to match Floyds speed.I havent seen much of DLH and Mosleys sparring so I dont know if he is doing a good job...but I heard that Kendal Holt use to be one of Floyds sparring partners and he matched him pretty good.
