Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
Here yee M-F'n here yee!
Once again the weekend is bearing down upon us stateside & once again we got ourselves another compelling match up courtesy of HBO's late-night boxing Boxing After Dark series.
It's been a struggle to nail down an opponent worthy of showcasing against ole' Acelino Freitas...just as much of a struggle as it's been for him to nail down a worthy showing against an opponent...but he's center stage once again this Saturday night April the 28th, 2007.
Alot of people go back & forth on Freitas, myself being one of those people. I could take the guy or leave him, in all truth, if I'm being honest. That being said...I'm actually a bit excited about this match up.
At 10:00 p.m. sharpish Freitas will be put to the test at the Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Connecticut this weekend when he steps into the ring against up & coming, undefeated Juan Diaz. Diaz boasts a record of 31 wins with 15 knockouts. Couple that with the age factor...Diaz is 23 years young, while Freitas is clipping 31...we could have a compelling match...dare I say even an upset brewing.
To date, both fighters have been nothing short of impressive. Acelino Freitas (38 wins with 32 ko's & 1 loss) has proven to be a pretty crafty boxer on top of being one hell of a cracker. Stopping 32 men dead in their tracks is a pretty impressive thing to do. The thing is...this weekend he's trying to do so against a younger more determined fighter that has proven to be able to bang...maybe not with the best...but he's been able to give & take with some pretty tuff customers. Freitas hopes are most likely to unify the straps & this will prove a good start as the competition is for the WBO & WBA Lightweight titles.
I promise you that he's going to have a tuff night of it due to the fact that Diaz has already defended his lightweight title six times & he's done tooth & nail.
All that blathery being said...the poll is up & you may cast your votes.
I'll be on a bit of a holiday next weekend as I leave the DRBR in the capable hands of me bwoyo Dan...it's make or break time for Wacko come May the Fif, 2007 as I pack up the camera, laptop, & put me drinkin gut on...I'm headin to Vegas baby...were the liquor's free...& the women are cheap & expensive!
So let's enjoy what little time we have left together. They say "What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas."...so I may never be comin back. I'll be sitting on a stool trying to beat the shit outta something that puts it's back to the wall & takes on the whole world...THE SLOTS!!!
You can sit as those fwockers & get free drinks all night long...you know where Wacko's gonna be!
So...break out the chips & salsa, pour up yee pwoison of choice, it's fight night...& wer'e kicking this one in the ole' poop chute!
Cheers...& koneecheewah bitches.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
I've had a change of heart I was originally going with Freitas by TKO but have changed it to Diaz by UD.
I think his work rate will de the deciding factor here and will give him the edge to win the fight.

CC#2822 on me WackOff.....
Should be a good scrap....

I pick Freitas by knockout, Corrales was just to big for him. Diaz is untested really, he also hasnt been in with a puncher like Freitas. We will get to see if he has a good chin.

I still haven't voted as I am a bit undecided about the outcome.

:coolclick: Not sure. For some reason though...I am leaning in that direction...but Raheem was able to go toe to toe with him...I think that the "Baby Bull" might be able to hang.
We shall see.

Good Evening young Wack-maninov, I hope that this fight will be music to your ears this weekend, and that you don't get annoyed thinking: "Why isn't it MAyweather v De La Hoya yet? A Whole Week away! A fricking week!!!!"
Grab your horlicks Wackster, because believe me, it'll come. And in two weeks time...you'll be back here apologising for leaving us at the greatest time of need. The biggest fight in recent memory.
Anyhow...apparently there is some fight going on this weekend, and I reckon Freitas is going to return from retirement motivated by the monotony of life outside the sport, and he will go out there on a mission and finish it late on.

Already thought that...but...this should suffice for a cooler.
9 more days to go.

Still not sure about the outcome of either fight.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
Diaz UD. The workrate will be too much and I think Freitas is well past his KO prime (see the most unaesthetically pleasing fight of the millennium vs. raheem). Really, I don't see Freitas by decision is a possible outcome. And I see a Freitas KO as about a 15% thing.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
Diaz couldn't knock out a hanging chad. Still, Freitas seems to get discouraged and fades down the stretch. Also it looks like he wears mascara.
Diaz will set a compubox record. For what I don't know yet.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
Alright...after a good night's drunken sleep (& to avoid being labled a panooch!) I have decided to make me pick.
Diaz by decision.
Should be a good match though.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
I'd be really dissapointed if Diaz lost, I don't like Freitas and Diaz is one of my favorite young fighters.
I think its just a question if Diaz can take the occasional flush shot from Freitas. If he can, and he can cut down the ring while Freitas spazzes out jumping around the ring, then he should outwork him. So I guess I'll go UD for Diaz.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
Casamayor didnt get the decision, Barrios got TKO'd, he was in the fight with Corrales til he took some heavy shots..he was winning on one of the cards but was losing the later rounds, and it looked like Corrales was getting stronger as the fight went on. I wonder what Corrales weight was right before the fight, seeing that he now can barely make welterweight..thats how much of a size difference there was..Freitas is a true lightweight..Corrales was just a freak of nature ..I really dont know how he once made superfeatherweight!! Barrios, Casamayor, Corrales, those are Freitas resume..Diaz has Jose Miguel Cotto, and who? Billy Irwin? Lavka Sim? This is his first big fight. I dont have anything against him, but he is gonna have to show me something because Casamayor, Barrios, and Corrales can all box and bang.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
I wish Freitas went back to being the KO machine he was before. He wont though and although he'll start off slower,Diaz will outwork, outhustle Freitas.
Re: Just another one of Wacko's Drunken Round by Rounds: Freitas vs Diaz!
This is going to be a gem imo.
Diaz is one of the most exciting and under appreciated fighters out there. One of my favorites. Very high work rate, works from the bottom up, and he is fast. Freitas has been proven one of boxing's most exciting fighters but Diaz is a whole nother animal. Should be a burner, I'm looking forward to the RBR Wack CC.

diaz boxes his way to a decision victory
