Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
It's pissing me off that people keep on saying Hopkins-Wright will be boring. THey think it will be both guys fighting from the outside, and hardly opponening up in a boring lethargic fight of geriatrics. However, Winky isn't really counter puncher. Sure if somebody is throwing punches he go into his shell, but he is always throwing punches, and always comming forward. Winky does not weight for his opponent to make a move he comes in lands the jab and his straight left along with a right hook to the body and then goes into his shell when his opponent tries to counter back. He made the Taylor fight interesting to watch, and he brought the fight to Ike Quartey whom alot of you thought would beat Winky, but instead Winky outpunched Quartey just did everything better. Winky is the second best fighter on the planet with the best resume of any fighter over the past 4-5 years. IMO he has made most of his fights exciting (except the Soliman fight, and the first Mosley fight) and this fight will be no different. Regardless of Hopkins age he will be comming in, in good shape. Hopkins is a great inside fighter, and he is tall which may alow him to hook around Winky's guard more effectively than Quartey, but Hopkins isn't quick enough to stay away from Winky, and he will have to resort to his rougher style. This fight is a blessing for boxing fans. It may have come late, but it will still be great.

I don't remember everyone, but alot of people were saying Quartey would beat Winky. There were a lot of claims about it just go look back in the archives.

I tend to agree with you. It will be interesting to see how BHOP handles perhaps the best pressure jab in boxing.
Re: Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
taeth i tottaly agree hav a cool click
Re: Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
:coolclick: Taeth.
No way this fight is boring.
Wright hasn't been in very many boring fights...I just don't get where that comes from. No one seems to like his style...but he pushes fighters to their limits & he beats them.
He's all class in Wacko's book.
Re: Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
I really don't think winky is boring, em i the only one who thinks winky and glen johnson are similar pressure fighters, the difference is winky can be a dominate defensive fighter but when his unbreakable defense gets annoyed, his going full force to whoop that a$s.

Taeth, I agree with you about Winky, but not about the Quartey stuff. I think you'd be best serving going back to archives yourself to find that almost everyone had Winky winning a lopsided UD.
Re: Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
I find this fight pretty interesting. I'll watch it of course. Maybe one replay, if showtime is showing something better, or if I have a wedding to go to.
Both guys are old. haha :) FACT It's an intriguing matchup, but not an exciting one.
Frazier is a pressure fighter. There really isn't no real pressure fighter today, other than about ONLY 3 fighters, and sometimes their gameplan is to retreat. So really... newbies to boxing don't know how a real pressure fighter fights... So this label of Winky as a pressure fighter is ridiculous.
Re: Winky IS A PRESSURE FIGHTER.
I CC'd you on the thread title alone. Spot on.
