Is Boxing's lack of press really that bad?

All the other major sports have constant media coverage but honestly how much of it is positive?

NFL: Roger Goodell wants everybody to call him daddy and be suspended over anything they do. Several reports on these suspensions.

MLB: Barry bonds is gonna break the record but everyone talks about how hes probably on roids. You have some 44 yr old dude getting 28 million for this year and he didnt even play for the whole year but hes not overpaid and De la hoya and floyd are? This dude wil play 10 times this year not including the playoffs. Then you have Schilling..... ::**

NBA: Stoudamire complaining about dirty players and David stern wants everyone suspended and fined for nonsense as well.

NHL: Too much fighting blah blah blah.

NASCAR: (how this ever surpassed boxing in sports popularity amazes me) People throwing beer at gordon and Dale earnhardt leaving his dads company.

GOLF: (Not really a sport in my eyes because 70 yr old men can do it for fun and actually be good at it) A bunch of white guys caling out tiger wods and then getting embarrassed the next day when he out plays all of them.

TENNIS: Not really anything bad. Only reason this is popular has to be because arguably two of the best players of all time (Federer and Nadal) are playing each other alot. Not that i follow tennis or anything like that.... :-[

from a british perspective i dont think boxing gets enough mainstream press. for example the recent de la hoya fight didnt really get many column inches

I believe that the problem comes from the poor heavyweight division. For me, Welterweight is where it's at, but that is not the blue ribbon division, even though it is more exciting than any division of the last 10 years. Who knows, if Mayweather does stick around, hopefully his bad image will attract people who want to see him knocked out, and with Mosley, Cotto and Hatton around, it is not beyond all realms of possibility.....if he makes the fights.

Boxing is traditionally looked down upon by the current liberal news media. Most of them have never been in a fist fight in their lives, and the ones that have probably got their asses kicked pretty easily.
