Big Bad Jermain Taylor AFRAID to go to Wales.
Boxing: Jermain backs off Joe
May 13 2007
Peter Shuttleworth, Wales on Sunday
JERMAIN Taylor last night insisted he will not fight Joe Calzaghe in Wales.
The American pound-for-pound star has told unbeaten WBO super-middleweight king Calzaghe - the longest reigning world champion - he will have to make his US debut if their super-fight is to happen.
Taylor said: "Calzaghe is a great fighter and $6m will open my ears. But he called me out, so he'll have to come to me. I'd never go to the UK."
================================================== ===========
Maybe they can make this fight in Memphis. lol
I thought JT said he would go anywhere to fight anyone?
Re: Big Bad Jermain Taylor AFRAID to go to Wales.
Why can't Joe fight somewhere else?

I hope your not trying to say Jermaine is afraid to fight top guys and calzaghe isnt?
Taylor last five fights Hopkins twice, winky wright, kassim ouma and now spinks.
Calzaghe last five fights Veit, Ashira, Lacy, Bika and manfredo.
Shouldnt Joe have the balls to fight Taylor in the USA?

Calzaghe needs to realize that at some point you HAVE to leave your own backyard to make fights happen. He needs to look at both Lennox Lewis and Chris Eubanks. One of them acheived more international glory and made more money because he was willing to go to where the fights were. The other didn't. Who's career would he most like to resemble?

I'm sure if you took the paypeview reveniew away from Lewis's earnings Eubanks wouldn't look so bad in comparison.

And why is it that Lennox became a ppv commodity to begin with? Because he made a name for himself by making big fights, somethink Eubanks didn't take advantage of.

That is right the way to gain popularity and money is to fight all the big names in and around your division like lennox did. The trouble with british fighters now is that their fans will watch them fight any old hack and still pay their money. I mean 35000 to watch joe v manfredo is ridiculous, if it had taken place in my back yard i probably wouldnt have gone out to have a look.

Correct me if I'm wrong.. but Eubank's career was pretty much over by 1995 about the same time as Lewis got KTFO by McCall and wasn't even a PPV attraction yet.
I don't think there was even the existance of such an animal as PPV boxing before 1995? Its a little hard to make moneys off something that don't exist ;)
Re: Big Bad Jermain Taylor AFRAID to go to Wales.
how come whenever it comes to calzaghe there is always trouble about what country they are fighting in ?
to be honest it shouldn't matter .
