Mundine to upset Kessler?
PLEASE HEAR ME OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently there is talk of a rematch between these two. Now I'm no big fan of Mundine, but i have seen his last two fights and have been extremely impressed. His fight against Danny Green who is a top ten ranked fighter was very one sided and he made the power punching green look as tho he should retire.
His next opponent Sam Soliman who is by no means a pretty boxer to watch but has given some top opponents a hard time, was completely destroyed by Mundine. Cracked on atleas three occasions.
Now my other reason for Mundine being a chance against Kessler is the fact that Mikkel may be looking past Mundine at the bigger name fights in the future.
Mundine has a lot more self belief than he did in the first fight, and is a lot better.
I still think Kessler will win but i think it could be his hardest fight so far....
Any thoughts?
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
I think Kessler will win. Have got no idea why he's going in with Mundine again tho to be honest. He beat him once. It makes more sense to try and force a fight with Berrio so he gains another world title and basically forces Calzaghe to fight him because he'll have 3 world titles to Joe's one.

Mundine is a big drawcard in Australia, so Kessler may be able to make more money by fightinf Mundine than any other available fighter?
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
I know, I just think beating the guy again proves nothing for him, and will do little to force his case for the bigger fight more. If he was to fight Berrio and beat him, he'd prob make less money, but would make more down the line as he would be seen as a dominant super-middle. Like you said...Mundine has improved so it could be an unnecessary risk.
Just my opinion.
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
I think Mundine would beat Berrio tho. So he would be fighting the better fighter.
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
I agree, but Kessler has beaten Mundine once. Berrio is nothing special, so he'd win no problem. Low risk, another title...forces the issue for Calzaghe, Hopkins, Wright to fight him because it would be difficult to argue that he isn't the dominant Super-Middle when holding 3 of the 4.

Mundine is WBA champ tho. So he has a title.
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
I know, but he's only WBA Champ because WBA made Kessler super champ thus freeing the belt up. So technically, Kessler is really the WBA champ and already has the belt. WBA are stupid and confusing.

Yeah i forgot that. Still think Mundine could cause an upset. He looked as good as any fighter i've seen for a while against Soliman, and Soliman makes most look bad.

You're right, it's not at all out of the question...but my money would be with Kessler.

Yeah Kessler would be a massive favourite.
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
Has the whole world gone mad? Mundine cannot and will not beat Kessler in a rematch!!!!
He has good skills and is fast and accurate with his punches but isn't in the same class as Kessler and Calzaghe.

You obviously know little about boxing....
Re: Mundine to upset Kessler?
Kessler knows the fight with Joe can come through he knows thats his ticket to solidify himself.
If they met, Kess would not take him lightly thats not Kess style....
I think Kess beats Mundine 5 out of 5 times..... IMO.

Obviously Mundine's title means very little to Kessler, but it does make him the designated mandatory. So if Kessler wants to retain his WBA (Super champ) title, he will have to meet Mundine eventually. If unification against Calzaghe or a big match against Taylor (or the winner of Hopkins-Wright) fails to come together, then it actually makes sense to get the mandatory out of the way now.
(I dunno what the time limit for meeting Mundine is. The WBA website states that super champs have 18 months to defend the title, but whether that means from the time Kessler became super champ (october 06) or from the time he last made a mandatory defense of the belt (january 06) seems unclear. If the latter happens to be the case, Kessler should actually meet Mundine next month!).
Anyway if the big figts dont materialize I would be happy with Kessler defending against Mundine at home in september and then he should go after the IBF title by the end of the year, preferably fighting for it on a major American undercard. By that time I expect Bute to hold the title and Kessler beating an undefeated Bute in North America, then holding 3 alphabelt titles... well, Kessler could be in line for a very lucrative 2008.
